I am here for Friends

About Me

I’ve worked in a church for three years, since graduating from Princeton Seminary, but I foresee my future eventually leading me to the academic world. I feel closest to God when I’m struggling with my faith. I have recently become obsessed with reading fiction (especially Kurt Vonnegut) as I’ve been made increasingly aware of the personal and social trauma that marks life in the “real” world.I yodel and am learning to mouth trumpet. I have memorized pi to 767 decimal places. I think that George Bush is the most dangerous living being on earth, with the possible exception of Dick Cheney. I love to sing and make movies about myself driving places. I am flexible and can put my feet over my head and limbo (not at the same time).I hate a lot of popular Christian literature like “Wild at Heart,” “The Purpose Driven Life,” and “The Prayer of Jabez.” They present a faith that is alien to me (and often alien to scripture). I like Henri Nouwen.I try to be patient and open-minded and a good listener, but when forced to deal with passive-aggressive people, I can become passive-aggressive as well. Difficult people frustrate me. I’ve recently started drinking a lot of coffee.
