Sensual, mysterious, gothic, vampiric... Karolina vel Death is a Polish lyrical soprano singer. She currently lives in The Netherlands and can often be seen in Belgium. She is currenlty working on her solo project and preparing a first demo EP. She is also the lead singer of Belgian Electro Metal band Skeptical Minds.
Karolina Beata Marta Pacan was born 24th August, 1983 in Myszkow situated in the South West of Poland, in the province of Silesia, where she spent her childhood with her brother and sister. She inherited her passion for music from her father who played guitar in a heavy metal band. Her vocal training started in primary school where she was in music class for 5 years. During this time she also joined a private Music School in Myszkow, where she learned piano and took more voice lessons. When she was 17 she joined a local group where artists could practice their voice. Karolina's talent was appreciated at many festivals, where she got high notes, and won them. She also got high notes for dancing, modeling and acting. Karolina has participated in various projects in Poland and Ireland: The Avalon (PL) as singer and composer, Ypsilon (PL) friendly on drumms, Sacrum of Elegy (IRL) as singer and composer, Zion Ablaze (IRL) as singer and composer, and collaborated with New Zealand band Beltane.
Karolina's voice is very characteristic and has a wide range. She can go from lyrical soprano opera to powerfull chest voice and growl. Her performance on stage is very creative, she can wear sexy latex outfit, huge medieval dress, or lace dress and cover herself with fake blood... Her dream is to be carried on stage in a coffin!
She finds her inspiration in dark and vampire stories from middle age, particularly about Vlad Tepes (Dracula) and Elisabeth Bathory. To practice her voice, she likes to sing songs of Nightwish, Within Temptation and Evanescence. Anyone who had the chance to hear her sing these difficult songs has been impressed by the correctness of her notes and her talent. Some day she will certainly record a cover album of the most famous female metal songs. Musically she also finds her inspiration in symphonic death metal, like Dimmu Borgir. The result of these various influences yield a unique musical genre: melodic, mysterious, dark, yet powerful and agressive.
Karolina is truly gothic is her heart and soul. No need for her to pretend or play a role, what you see is what she is, naturally. Therefore, she has also a natural gift to choose the right attire for the right circumstance. Wherever she appears in gothic or metal events, she immediately gets the attention from everyone. Her ease to interact and communicate with people makes her very approachable, for the pleasure of her fast growing fan base.
Karolina vel Death is building a strong reputation on the metal scene and is ready to embrace an international career, with passion and excellence...
