Raising the chicks for the first couple months in the pantry room was an adventure all in it's self. You could tell the different personalities of each chick right from the start. Some where timid.... Some were curious.... Others were friendly as puppy dogs. They were all wonderful babies, bring many laughs and smiles to my home. They ate like champs and grew up fast!
Once they moved out to the coop, they flourished and even surprised me a couple times. Since I ordered all Pullets, I assumed that they would be all girls. well, as they settled into the new coop I could hear the faint crow of a young rooster. I guess 1 out of 30 isn't bad.
Waiting for eggs to come was every bit nerve racking and disappointing.... Once the girls turned 5 months old I began checking the nests each day for eggs. Day after day... nothing. Finally I decided to stop checking to save myself the disappointment. Wouldn't you know it.... after a couple days... I found the first 2 eggs!!! WOO HOO!
Now the girls are all laying pretty regular and I get almost 20 eggs a day. So, the next adventure was to start to sell the eggs that I couldn't use.
There is nothing better then a fresh egg straight from the coop! Not only are they fresh but the hens are all well cared for, & treated humanly.... in fact, they are pretty spoiled.... no cages, lots of free ranging, fresh fruits and veggies, fresh water daily, grains and layer feed too.
If you've never had a truly fresh egg.. you don't know what you are missing. Grocery store eggs are tasteless, dull, and drab compared to a farm fresh egg!
