OK HERE'S THE DEAL I HAVE BEEN ASKED THESE QUESTIONS A MILLION TIMES, SO HERE'S MY BEST ANSWERS:
(1) DO YOU (DOC) EVER PRODUCE NEW ARTIST THAT ARE NOT ALREADY SIGNED TO A MAJOR LABEL ? (Not very often, But if the artist is extraordinary Then I would be interested in producing them)
(2) DO YOU (DOC) PRODUCE ALL KINDS OF MUSIC ? (Music is music, I love all of it, and I know all of it, It all has beauty, sometimes you just have to dig a little deeper to find it, so my answer is YES)
(3) IF YOUR A COUNTRY ARTIST WOULD YOU ADVISE THEM TO GO TO NASHVILLE TO GET A MAJOR DEAL ? (In the words of Vern Gosdin "IF YOU WANT TO LEAVE NASHVILLE WITH A MILLION DOLLARS, YOU BETTER BRING 2 MILLION WITH YA, That's all I have to say on that subject. It's really simple, the geographical location of any city does not guarantee success in the music business, It's always the producers, the players, the studio and last but not lease the material (songs) and then when your all done, ya better have a producer (that is respected with a strong track record of success) that will run the finish product and get the deal. REMEMBER IF YOU INTEND TO ATTACK A BILLION DOLLAR INDUSTRY, YOU CAN'T DO IT WITH HOME MADE DEMOS. IT JUST DON'T WORK THAT WAY, NEVER HAS AND NEVER WILL!!!, SO WHEN YOUR REALLY READY TO TAKE THAT BIG SHOT, GET YOURSELF THE RIGHT PEOPLE IN YOUR CAMP, SPEND THE MONEY AND GET THE DEAL, IT'S THAT SIMPLE.
(4) GOT ANYMORE QUESTIONS?? E-MAIL MY MANAGEMENT TEAM, THEY WILL HELP YOU OUT AND PROBABLY SAVE YOU A TON OF DISSAPOINMENT ALONG YOUR JOURNEY. HERE'S THEIR E-MAIL ADDRESS: [email protected] GOOD LUCK, SEE YA AT THE GRAMMY'S
Doc Holiday;
Born in Newark, New Jersey to parents Edward Wohanka and Carmela Pagano And Raised in Holmdel, NJ, a small race horse breeding town near Asbury Park where he attended a small, private two room grammar school called "Centerville" with a total of 23 students through the eight years he attended. Began studying music at age five and continued to study privately through the eighth grade.
He began performing live at the age of 13 with his first band called "The Harbor Lights" By the time he was 28 years of age, he had performed and worked with the biggest names in Rock & Roll "Jerry Lee Lewis", "The Rascals", "Bruce Springsteen", "Vito & The Salutations", "Randy & The Rainbows", "The Duprees", "Chubby Checker", "Bobby Rydell", "Danny & The Juniors", "Ray Charles", and "The Fifth Dimension", just to name a few.
But always through it all Doc was constantly recording, producing and performing music.
He worked at the famed Sun Studios in Memphis, TN, Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia, Virtue Recording Studios in Philadelphia, Alpha Audio In Virginia, Acoustic Loop Studios In Alabama, Fame Studios In Alabama and the Record Plant in New York City. During this time he worked on many national projects recorded at these studios, Just a few of the artist that recorded there at the time were artists such as Jimi Hendrix, The Rascals, Mountain, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ohio Express, The 1910 Fruit Gum Company, Eddie Holman, The Stylistics, Loretta Lynn. He has personally produced many artists such as Cissie Lynn, Big Al Downing, Herman's Hermits, Mike Penders Searchers, Jon Washington of the Fortunes, Chauncey Black Of "Blackstreet", Bernard Jackson Of "Surface" and Doug "The Ragin' Cajun" Kershaw to name a few.
He was also head of A&R for major label ABC Paramount in New York City. He was one of the founding members of a group from New Jersey called "The Soul Set" later known as the "Soul Survivors" and after it was found out that the name "The Soul Survivors" was being used by another band, they then became known as "The Doc Holiday Band" and "The DuCanes",
He was also a member along with players like Garry Tallent , Steve Van Zant (both now members of Bruce Springsteen's E-Street Band), Gary "A", Mickey Holiday, (One of the greatest entertainers I have ever seen, I took his name and his style, Mickey was the reason for Doc Holiday) Billy Ryan, Billy "Cherrybomb" Lucia, Johnny Shaw, Jack Valentine, (Just to name a few.) of the legendary Jersey Shore Band "The JayWalkers" for 5 years, which would go down in musical history as the creators of S.O.A.P. (THE SOUND OF ASBURY PARK) , which was later adopted by, Bruce Springsteen, Clarence Clemmons, Southside Johnny, and members of Bon Jovi . According to Doc "Of all the people that take credit for the band "The JayWalkers" including myself, there is only one that really deserves the credit for that legendary band, and that's John Shaw. He was the creator, he was there through over 50 changes in members and John Shaw, besides being a great songwriter, leader, singer and musician, was an excellent record producer, and although he didn't know it at the time, taught me how to make a record sound like a record. John Shaw is truly the unsung hero and a major part in the development of all the great recording artists, songwriters and producers that came out of the Jersey shore and went on to be Super Stars".
