Though young, Jason Nix and crew are quickly becoming experienced, well-traveled musicians. Fueled by the release of their EP What We Had, a van full of energy drinks, and a passion for what they are doing, Jason Nix and his band are literally on the road to success. Jason is currently headlining successful concerts at colleges and venues across the country.
While occasionally driving through the night to make his next show, all-nighters are not an out-of-the-ordinary occurrence for this college sophomore. The hard work and sleepless nights are paying off. What We Had, the emotional debut EP from Jason Nix that chronicles the ups and downs of every relationship, is being well received by friends, family, and fans.
Like so many aspiring singers, Jason Nix moved out of a small town to chase a big dream. Nix, however, is not anxious to forget his rural roots in Brookhaven, Mississippi. While he runs from “Memories of You,†the first single to be released off What We Had, Jason embraces his small town beginnings. In fact, he believes they contributed to the successful debut of the EP. Jason poetically comments, “There was nothing to do there except fall out of love and write songs about it.â€
Growing up in Brookhaven left Nix without an outlet for his self-described “teenage angst.†In response, Jason opted out of most small town shenanigans and began to stay home on the weekends to write and play music. In 2003, Jason began hooking up with various bands to play in churches and small venues around town. Having realized his love for writing, singing, and performing, Nix decided to pursue music seriously. Unwilling to sacrifice his education, Jason’s ambition moved him from Mississippi to Tennessee.
The import from Brookhaven, Mississippi now calls Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee home. At a school known for its competitive music programs, Nix quickly proved his prowess as a performer. After gathering a hearty fan base of professors and peers alike, Adam Zinke (Vantage Point Records) signed Jason Nix to a publishing contract, and subsequent management deal. Since that time in 2005, Nix and Zinke worked tirelessly to sharpen the songs included on What We Had.
Recently, Steve Ivey of IMI Music agreed to contribute what he could to the project. This Grammy nominated, Emmy and Tele Award winning producer who has worked with musical legends such as Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, and Bill Anderson is helping connect Nix and various record labels up and down music row.
With so much happening for this young artist it is impressive to see that he wants more from his music than album and ticket sales. Jason Nix poignantly notes, “Music is about things that we all face. It’s something that can bring everyone together in some way. It’s a little deeper than what we’re capable of expressing in love, and that’s what makes music so special to share. The music is just about the journey getting there.â€
