Young Turk was a great Miami based band that started out as a Rock band with a sleeze rock feel sort of like poison but with out all the big hair, spandex and make-up. When they came out they had great sounding tunes that could stand up to any of the typical Metal/Rock tunes of the 80's. Their first release was a album entitled "Do you know where your daughters are?". It was a great first effort equipped with songs that stuck in your mind when you heard them. One song had an anthem feel telling the listener to "Reach for that pot of Gold" while another song was a great ballad telling of the "Winter Nights" that keep calling. I can recall watching Young Turk perform at a Battle of the Bands event at a place in Miami called "The Hairy Eyeball". They brought on stage with them an intense feeling of LETS PARTY that rubbed off on the crowd as they played and made every one feel the vibe! The vocalist Rhett O'Neil would be on stage tossing out beers to people in the crowd setting the pace for a wild kick ass show! Soon to follow their first effort, a 2nd unsigned release from YOUNG TURK followed entitled "train to nowhere". In 1991 Young Turk with the help of Neon City Productions released "Tired of Laughing", another good release from the band. As time went on into 1992 Young Turk signed up with major recording label Virgin Records and released its first official CD entitled "N.E. 2nd Ave.". The musical style for Your Turk on this release went in a separate direction than their album they put out years prior. On "N.E. 2nd Ave" they matured and it showed with the quality of music present on this cd. They were categorized as alternative rock but when one listens to the cd it clearly shouts out in the style of great classic rock. The influences on this CD are obvious and best of all, it works and it works very well! On the song entitled "Baby Ah " one can hear that it's style sounds like it came right from the minds of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Other notable influences heard on this cd are that on a few songs Rick Diaz's drumming mixed with the guitar work give off the sound and feel of John Bohnam and Jimmy Page. All the songs on this release are filled with emotion, feeling and passion. Every song is worthy of a soundtrack to life as we know it. The songs that rock will have you moving and the mellow songs like "Painting the sun" will have you thinking. To sum it up the "N.E. 2nd Ave." release is a great rock CD from a great band.
A band that I feel was way ahead of it's time for if this release came out today, it most surely would be on MTV and VH1.
