Dr. Frankenstein
In the summer of 94, André Joaquim and Filipa Galhardo start jamming, after some weeks Miguel Almeida joins on the drums. In the beginning the band used to play 60's Garage, Cramps and Stones covers, but soon they went InstruMental, they name themselves Dr. Frankenstein because of their love for B-movies and american trash culture.In '95 the band enter the comp. Portugal Rockers released by Metralha Records. Without even giving a gig the Dr. Frankenstein record, Brain Wash and A Mulher Raio-X. In the same year while recording the first demo-tape Miguel Almeida leave the band.During '96 BeeKeeper / Milkshake Records invites Dr. Frankenstein to enter the now acclaimed Portuguese comp. SuperMarket Music. The band recorded 2000 Lb. Bee a cover from the Ventures with André playing the drums. This song was taken from a collection of 14 demo-songs that were titled The Cursed Tapes (Stolen Songs from Dr. Frankenstein's Lab.). In January 1997 André completed more 7 of this songs. In disagreement with this Filipa hasn't played the bass, so two of the songs (Necrófago & The Legendary Swamp Surfers from Hell) were released in André's solo project 7" Red Headed Men.The band continued without a drummer, but in '98 after a The Cramps gig in Lisbon Luis Futre (from Milkshake) presents Sérgio Lemos to André and Filipa, after some rehearsals they went to S.T.S. and record Ghost City E.P.On September '98 Filipa leave the band, and on December 5th 98 Dr. Frankenstein make their first gig has a Guitar/Drums Duo.
The year of '99 was filled with concerts.In January 2000 Luis Manso joins Dr. Frankenstein. Meanwhile Filipa Galhardo joined again and after some gigs the band finally get a new record contract with Low Fly Records.
The first C.D. was called The Lost Tapes from Dr. Frankenstein's Lab. and was released on October 1st 2000 at Low Fly's Dance Party on Palco 6 - Sound System.
In 2001 the band is promoting the record, now with a horn section (Alexandre Catalino - Trumpet, Pedro Rolão - Saxophone & Pedro Cabanelas - Trombone), presenting the record on the most important festivals in Portugal, making the opening act for bands like Man Or Astroman?, and Speedball Baby. During the same year they recorded the 2nd C.D. titled The Psychotic Sounds of Dr. Frankenstein.
In February 8th 2002 Porno Star E.P. is released, and in May the second C.D. is released. In December Dr. Frankenstein plays in the place where they've played live for the first time ending the Psychotic Sounds chapter.
2003 starts with the making and recording of 7 tracks for a new E.P.called Plutonium Love, but the departure of Sérgio Lemos and Luis Manso makes that work left behind.Soon after Dr. Frankenstein gets new members besides André and Filipa, the usual partners in crime Pedro Rolão (ex. sax) now on Upright Bass, Alexandre Catalino on Trumpet, the new members André Marques on Drums and a long time band friend Frederico Baltazar on Guitar.
After some warm up gigs that reveals Dr. Frankenstein more in shape than ever, the band plays at Wild Weekend 4 in Benidorm (Spain) playing outside Portugal for the first time.(...continues...) Road To Tabasco - Dr. Frankenstein
