Opening with the clickety-clack of a very fast or very poor typist, Ben is the prototypical song for the modern lap-popper: affected, lisping vocals trickle over top of card-in-the-spokes clicking and snow-pure xylophone. The music is wistfully playful but the lyrics are morose. Lost battleships, fantasy seas, and dark oceans abound, while the music chirps and rings cheerfully to overcome the meloncholy. When our protagonist finally reaches his goal, How disappointing seemed the ocean/All of it flat and contained/It was poorly maintained, it was poorly maintained.
