I like to spread the sounds of music...
An interest that was sparked at the age of 16 when I co-organized a charity fashion show in aid of the British Heart Foundation. UK reggae artist TOP CAT (big up babe) gave his support by performing a number of tracks on the night. I'll always remember when we first met before he went on stage "This is a dub plate special" he said "fresh off the press - a wicked Jungle cut†the track in question was the Congo Natty smash - the first time that the track had been performed live. Support also came in from fashion chains/groups such as Top Shop & Top Man, The Sweater Shop, and Miss Selfridges amongst others. Of course the event was a huge success!!!
At the age of 18 I enrolled at London College of Fashion - but ditched the course as it was far too expensive for a council estate girl like me - no silver spooning here I’m afraid;0)
At the age of 19 I joined the Botchit & Scarper label as a work experience (don’t you love those words) who’s skill was typing, setting up databases and filing during the day and jumping around all night to big dirty bass lines. Big up Martin (daddy mo), Sonia (where u at Jimmy), Markie (the original PR guru) and the late great Vini Medley (RIP)... Because I was so quick fingered I became Vini's PA - a role that taught me a lot. In my spare time I modeled appearing in campaigns such as Kangol and featuring in videos by David Gray, Bob Marley, Harry Enfield, Craig David, MTV amongst others (embarrassing).
In 2001 I moved into the role of Head of PR & Promotion/Co-Label Manager ditching the modeling work to concentrate on helping to run the label. While in the role I implemented original marketing ideas while instigating the set up of the award winning breakbeat club night Collision giving DJ RAP her first ever breaks set. A few years later I took part in the Panasonic Trades Fair as an Exhibitor for the Technics stand roping in the original breaks scratch dons Terry Atomic Hooligan (big up the Watford massive) & the Lovely R Kidz (Lawgivers). It was great when the big boss of Panasonic thanked us for our “Rapping and scratchingâ€. The Technics office was officially down with the streets asking me to promote new equipment to the grass roots of the music scene.
In 2004 I put together single project ‘One Stop To Glory’ by Ill Logic & Raf Ft Don-E, a single born out of love of music gaining respect from DJ’s, music lovers and media alike and to the best of my knowledge it is still the biggest selling single in recent years for the camp.
Through the years I have worked on a number of enjoyable projects which include Breakin Science (big up Laurence Bagnall xxx), Back to 95, Movement, Times Two Recordings (Big up Mc Det), Aerosoul Clothing (Leke your LARGE), Omar (Big up Lucia), Groove Odyssey, Phuturistic Bluez NY, Don-E, Sugahnut Clothing UK, Hempolics, Rat Records, Streetbeats, Noir, Ultra Violet LIVE (crazy like me!), Technics UK, Smoove (big up the Ministry massive), Black Noise (aquasky – the original bournemouth breaks crew), Fuel, Oxfam, Music 4 Life, FAADA (Big up Spoon)...
I continue to push the music and artists that I love through writing for magazines and hosting radio shows which include/ have included Ministry of Sound, Trust The DJ, Groove Tech, M8 Magazine etc I continue to party and introduce great acts to collaborate on projects including the DEEKLINE & WIZARD/TOP CAT/FALLACY hook up (I hear the beats are gravy lads – gwan!).
