Smooth, sultry, creative and talented are some of the many words that describe Yasin Travis. To the melody of acoustic hymns, he grabs your attention with every note and chorus. As a prodigy in his own right, it’s taken this singer, song writer, actor and choreographer some time to balance all his talents into a single total package, but now he’s ready to blow. Long before the touring and A – list socializing, this Brooklyn born, Cleveland raised artist was getting breaks into the industry by doing appearances on early MTV programs like ‘Say What Karaoke†and “Global Groove†in the late ‘90s.Not too long after, he would also land gigs as a dancer in music videos like “Feels So Good†by Jennifer Lopez and Missy Elliot’s one time summer banger “Hot Boyz.†With a striking model appearance and entertainer like attributes, it seemed as if he was being beckoned to be apart of the entertainment industry in some capacity. Whether it was being a model for Marc Buchanan - Pelle Pelle Spring/Summer Collection or writing music, he seemed destined. He had already come from a family with successful people. His late uncle George Adams, which he attributes to being a big influence on him deciding to become an entertainer, was a brilliant Jazz Tenor Saxophonist and Flutist. His aunt Cheryl Adams is a famed News Anchor for the Fox Network. So Yasin’s gear was definitely in motion, with confidence added, and soon he would step his game up another notch and add the title of choreographer into the mix. He had the fortunate opportunity to choreograph a half - time show for a Final Four game in St. Louis an NBA All-star Weekend, and opened for recording artist Mya.Also around this time, he was aspiring to have a singing career and shortly after, garnished a recording deal with Ruff Ryders/Virgin Records. While there, he wrote and was featured on “My First Child†and you “U Had Me†on Drag-On’s second album, “Hell and Backâ€. However; the deal with Ruff Ryders would soon sour and both parties severed ties. Yasin moved on and continued writing. He linked up to write for such artist as Jerzee Monet, former So So Def recording artist Trey Lorenz, R&B vocalist Marc Dorsey, Harlem World and Brandy. He was establishing himself as a creditable figure in a huge circle, and didn’t loose touch with the community. In 2006, he appeared in a public service announcement for Essence Cares. The PSA featured celebrities Oprah Winfrey, Terrence Howard, P. Diddy, Danny Glover, Spike Lee and Harry Belafonte.Yasin is motivated to make history, and his ambition is unlimited. He’s more than just a show, but more of a pure piece to the building block that makes the world of music thrive. He’s apart of a fresh generation that’s passionate, creative and intelligent. He provides a great example that when you have great talent extraordinary possibilities are endless.
