And an edgy and controversial tale that doesn't play it safe.
Azùcar is a multi-cultural drama/comedy about a group of friends whose tangled interrelationships, explosive secrets, and sexual infidelities could destroy their precious bond. An aspiring film actress, Nikki “Azùcar†Moreno is struggling with her decision to move to L.A. It won't be easy saying goodbye to her Detroit hometown -- particularly her closest friend and cousin Rosie who is beset by her own problems: she is wildly attracted to the pretty and proper Crystal as well as the dashing Alejandro. Their other friend Jasmine is deeply in love with her boyfriend Dante, but he has an addiction that could lead to deadly consequences. Nikki and Rosie’s roommate Chico is coming to terms with a one night stand whose outcome could affect him forever.
Amidst tragedy, conquering her own self-doubts and the unraveling of friendships, Nikki must make what could be the most important decision of her life.
Azùcar is based on the Simon & Schuster novel Azùcar Moreno by Shelley Halima. The novel made the top 100 best-seller list on Amazon for Hispanic books.
Doing the film score for Azucar will be renown jazz musician Terri Lyne Carrington.
