I am here for Friends

About Me

Hello. I am from the beach. I miss it terribly. I have made great friends here in Bakersfield so that helps make up for my loss. I can't believe they have a whole section where you have to write about yourself. Yech. Not my most favorite of topics. I think that your friends should have to fill out this section...that is unless your friends are like my friends which means that, really, you would get a better review from your worst enemy...love you ladies!
Salamander Lyrics I like to think that I am someone you would like to know. Well, unless you are somone I don't care to know, then I am horrible and I stink. I return my shopping cart to the appointed place, rather than let it ride around the parking lot so as to bang up your car. Now, I know I am from California and here we are all about the organic this and free range that, but I am a firm believer that shopping carts ahould be corrraled at all times.I would like to think I am a cat person, you know, smart, chic, black turtleneck wearing and hip. I mean I have a cat. His name is Wallop. (10 points to you if you know where that is from...) But the truth is I am a dog person. I like being needed. Which works out well, because my cat is really needy. He is such a poor excuse for a cat, that I think it is a good thing he is inside only because the other cats would kick his ass for being so dog like.I am in the middle of my third year of teaching. I love it. I mean I really love what I do. Today one of my students sounded out "sand dollar" and I just wanted to throw a party. It gives me goose bumps just sitting here thinking about it. I should mention that I teach children with Autism who are severe enough to need a special class. Every little step we take that makes their lives that little bit more independent is so very rewarding. We don’t have those everyday, but when we do, it makes all the work that went into it so worth it. I love my job, but it is very difficult at times. I have students that I am teaching to read and write and add and subtract, as well as students that I am teaching to sit in a chair for more than a second, or potty training, or how to eat with a spoon instead of with their hands. It is a difficult balance to find. I wish there were more hours in a day, or a pause button, or some way to be in two places at one time. I have a great team in my room and that really makes a difference. My two instructional aides are really worth their weight in gold. They are so smart, and so patient and just so good with these kids. I am really fortunate to have them, because I know many people who have to work everyday with people who aren’t.

My Interests

I love music, movies, and the beach. I really enjoy being outside, well when I am anywhere except in Bakersfield, and I think road trips are great- especially spontaneous ones! I love to read and have way too many books, if such a thing is possible. I really do hope to reread them sometime...

I'd like to meet:

Other people who actually return their shopping carts to the "return shopping carts here" island thingie, Anyone who loves Ani Difranco's music, or Terry Moore's Strangers in Paradise; Neil Gaiman or Dave McKean, or people who like their work; Anyone else who can taste the difference between Dasani and Aquafina (and especially those that know that Aquafina tatses better!) People who think a day spent rummaging around an old library sounds like heaven. Anyone who love sxhool supplies as much as I do.
