I've always had a special interest in language but since my time spent abroad I realized that I really want to learn all sorts of languages. Being bilingual in Hmong and English isn't enough. I have been studying Chinese (Mandarin) for 6 years now and though I'm done with school I'm going to try my hardest to keep up with my Chinese. With my infatuation with the Hindi culture, and of course the movies and music, I really want to learn how to speak Hindi. Next I want to learn Korean. I fell in love with the Koreans when I was in China....making many friends and developing a new relation with Koreans in general. After returning home I've taught myself to read in Korean...now I just need to learn some grammar and work on my vocab. I'm determined to learn...though it's hard when you don't have anyone to teach you and nothing else to go by except for dictionaries. In addition, while abroad I made some really good friends with a few Indonesian students...yep, I want to learn Indonesian as well. And adding to all of that, I want to learn Thai and Lao (though somewhat the same-phonetically). And I've studied French for four years...and I wouldn't mind picking that back up as well. **Sigh** Wow...one step at a time right? I have to say that this is my main interest as of now.
Honestly I can listen to just about anything. I like a wide range of music...and it depends on what kind of mood I'm in. Obviously being Hmong, I love my hmong music. From the rocking Sounders, to the love ballads of KLS and IIU, to Xanakee and Ntsa Iab. I also like Chinese and Korean music too. With my fatuation with Hindi movies, I also like Hindi music as well. I have CDs consisting of Mariah Carey (her first few albums), Enya, SHE, Bad Boys Blue, Stevie B, Madonna, Shania Twain, Bone Thugz N Harmony, David Tao, Eve, Az Yet, TLC, John Mayer, Mary J. Blige, Pink, & others. I've always loved music...whether it be listening to it...singing or dancing...belting it out when I'm in my car....or simply bopping my head to the beat. It's always a good thing to have.
Sad but true...I can't help but stay glued to the screen with all these reality shows. Fear Factor, Flavor of Love, Real World, Project Runway, Amazing Race are a few. Though I may be in front of the TV a lot there are only a few channels that I have programed:MTV, VH1, FoodTV, Comedy Central, Bravo, WE, Oxygen, CBS, & Spike TV.
