About Me

I am writing new material which helps me to get through this flexible musical interlude in my life: There are four new song demos up here as of September 2010. One is a 2005 demo called "What am I to Do?" which is a piano ballad written several years ago during a mournful period in my life. "Anytime" was written last October--hoping to sing it with someone. "4 You" was written on a rainy night in Minneapolis, which is what you are hearing at the beginning and at the end. "Let It Go" was completed this month and deals with various human emotions. I am pleased to share a live version of my song "Last Stand" which was recorded at the Fine Line in Minneapolis in the summer of 2010. My friends from 10 Gallon Monk are supporting my bass guitar and vocals.

Sounds Like: Obviously it depends on which genre I am working in. My instrumental pieces have a strong baroque/classical element to them contrasted with a more folky improvisational style. My pieces with lyrics range over many genres and really depend on the specific song. Overall I think some of my tunes share similarities to certain solo Lennon tunes of the melancholy variety with maybe a melodic hint of some heavier artists like Alice in Chains.

SERENITY STREAM

"Serenity Stream" was mainly improvised around the key of E major. This key is well suited to the guitar. The sonorities are warm, bright, and inviting. I did have a chord progression in mind when I s...
