under your skin there is a light rain
misting itself to the surface.
It’s that cloudiness in your eyes
when jazz is pulsing around the room.
It’s that heavy smell of sky
that seeps from the nape of your neck.
And if no one has ever mentioned it until now,
when you’re sleeping, the world is growing
dewey with desire, craving you
to roll out of bed, pull back
your hair, spread a simple smile
to nourish,
to replenish,
to persuade the morning
into its delicate song.
