In today’s ever changing world of hip hop culture, words may read one way in the dictionary, and have a completely different connotation when being used in various urban circles. The word “grind†can be defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary as “to reduce to powder or small fragments by friction.â€Â Â
But in the streets, grinding is working hard to achieve a goal, thus making it a perfect word to be personified by 22-year old production prodigy J.A. His multifaceted imprint, 24 Hour Grind, is becoming one of the most highly sought after franchises, due to his futuristic production, successful mixtape series aptly titled “On the Grindâ€, (on which he has featured many major artists), and most importantly his “grind.†Â
Raised from his youth in the gritty NE/NW Metropolitan D.C. area, he has also lived in Chicago, New York and Atlanta. His nomadic relocation can be heard in his tracks as he produces with a widely universal sound. After watching his brothers take up producing, he began to produce himself at the age of 14. Unusually advanced for his age, before his 15th birthday, J.A. was being mentored by veteran producers and even had a manager. Â
After years of progressing as an artist as well as maturing as a man, he now boasts production credits for the likes of well known artists such as Dipset affiliates Juelz Santana, Jr. Writer, and Purple City, Freekey Zeekey as well as southern veteran Young Buck. Â
His credibility as a force to be reckoned with got a huge boost after winning a production contest held by super producer Swizz Beatz and SOHH.com. As if his production career wasn’t blossoming enough, he also has “On The Grind†mixtapes under his belt featuring(all can be viewed on Southtapes.com) Webbie, Pitbull and Chingo Bling, B.G., Trae, Paul Wall and The GRIT Boys, T-Rock, Tum Tum & Big Tuck Max Minelli and many more. Â
At only 22, J.A. is well into his career and doesn’t plan on settling for anything less than being at the top of the industry. When you have a 24-hour grind, anything is possible.Â
