Drum with Spirit

About Me

Check this out:
Rhythm was always my love as a kid. I knew I should have picked percussion in fifth grade band, but picked the clarinet in order to make friends with the other girls at my new school in California. It wasn't until my first semester of college in the fall of '95 that I used my music scholarship, earned for my bass clarinet playing, to obtain free, private drum lessons from a percussionist in the Oregon Symphony. The school wasn't happy but I was!
I took eight lessons before leaving college and losing the free lessons. From then on, I obtained every bit of information to improve my skills from staring at other drummers at the many shows I'd go to. I'd also ask these drummers about a certain technique here and there or how they practiced (you learn a lot from someone's practice habits).
The only band I've played in with a decent amount of underground attention was Coccyx from Buckley, WA. We played many clubs in the Seattle/Tacoma area as well as parties. We recorded 29 songs in three sessions: "Coccyx" in 2000, "Pitch Black" in 2001, and "Coccyx 2", the last when I was 6 months pregnant, in May 2002. We recorded three songs for an Art Institute of Seattle student's senior project but never saw the end product of that unfortunately.
I tried to pick four songs to represent myself. They're all from the same band and are from 2001-02, so they don't encompass my playing ability totally.
I've played in several different worship and secular bands with styles from jazz/funk/rock to hardcore/metal to old-school punk to plain ol' mainstream rock. Currently, I play a wide variety of styles at GodSong Community Church in Newberg, Oregon.
