About Me

I'm a news and arts reporter for The Boston Phoenix who also covers hip-hop (and some other shit on occassion) for The Source, Yellow Rat Bastard (YRB) Magazine and (formerly) Elemental, Boston's Weekly Dig and The Boston Herald - none of which means that you should nag me for press - I'm just propping myself here.
The list of people I've written about reads the same as the list of cats I respect and listen to. That's what I do: cover artists whose pen movements motivate me to spill ink. If you want names though - here's a very abridged list: Kool G Rap, Ludacris, R.A. the Rugged Man, The Game, Talib Kweli, Rev Run, Damian Marley, Cage, Casual, Lady Sovereign, 50 Cent, Edo G., Slaine, Jaysaun, Lyor Cohen, Sean Price, Pigeon John, Lyrics Born, Stat Quo, Prince Po, DL, Awkward Landing, Ras Kass, Defari, Mr. Lif, Akrobatik, Jake the Snake, The Greater Good, Tanya Morgan, Pharrell Williams, Cee-Lo Green, Danger Mouse, Euphrates, Rugged Intellect, 7L, Esoteric, Grandmaster Flash, Kid Sister, Chamillionaire, Copywrite, Dru Ha, Sean P., Q-Unique, Kool Keith, Miri Ben-Ari, Immortal Technique, Slug, Ant, Brother Ali, Sheek Louch, Sean Paul, Substance Abuse, RJD2, Blueprint, Time Machine, Del and a lot more.I hate weak shit.

Ill Bill Feature (From The Boston Phoenix, 09.03.2008)

As much as Ill Bill eschews clichés, the Brooklyn rap goon is either a righteous friend or a torrential enemy. Last week at Quad Studios in Times Square, he proved to be the former. Five years ago at ...

Feature on Kabir (From The Boston Phoenix 08.27.2008)

In eighth grade, I decided that school and hip-hop should exist separately. It was spring semester, and my sexy music teacher tapped me to perform "a rap" at an Earth Day assembly. Like a pathetic hor...

Digging RZA in 36 Steps (From The Boston Phoenix, 08.21.2008)

I recently took the Greyhound to Montreal for a RZA concert. In fact, my lust for Wu-Tang has led me to endure even fouler things than eight hours of lavatory stink: since the Clan usually bypass Bost...
