About Me

My name is Gavin, I really like listening to new music and playing guitar. I'm at Perth College studying music HNC Music Performance and work with two bands: 1) a Muse cover band with the intention of writing our own material, 2) a folk rock group where i play acoustic and electric guitar. I think music is an interesting career and general landmark in life, it brings people together and any song can affect someone in some way. I'm glad to be in a position where i can learn new techniques from Cameron, play music with Dave for hours and most importantly listen to a wide variety of musicians from all over the world.I love music and I always will, it has embedded in my soul with the intentions of happiness, love and courageI also think that we should do what we can to prevent climate change, this world won't last forever but we should at least do what we can to keep it alive. Here are some cool tunes, they have made this past summer enjoyable for me

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

1. Biffy Clyro would be eally cool to meet, I wouldn't know what to say to them but im sure they would be really down to earth and up for a laugh. How they write and performe complex yet simple songs is a wonder! They were my favourite band but unfortunately my music direction is changing, im so glad lauren and Eilidh got me listening to them though and their surprise support act for Velvet Revolver in 2005 was incredible! 2. John Butler and the John Butler Trio are incredibly amazing and inspirational, I thought Simon and Kurt were role models...now im growing a beard, wearing baggy clothing, drinking more water and fruit juices. Their music is unreal, i never would have thought playing a lap steel and acoustic guitar could be so grooving with a few fx pedals...then Shannon Birchall plays a double bass with drums and an amplified acoustic guitar! 3. Bedouin Soundclash are an extremely talented band who i'd really love to go see live becasue they are incredible. Their songs are brilliant and totally reggae with excellent lyrics, you should definitely go check out their myspace and i would recommend buying "Sounding Amosaic" because every tune is a hit. The most popular tune of the album is "When the night feels my song", but i would say that there are other tunes better than that one. 4. Kurt Cobain played a big part as inspiration during my early teen years, its ashame that he died however the essence of "Nevermind" and the importance of not becoming a commercial band/"bubblegum" i still believe is a personal ambitious goal. No matter what music i play or who i play with, i choose to be remembered for great songs and being in great bands...not to be a well known celebrity. 5.Muse...they have played a very important role in my life. I had the most fun, played with fantastic musicians, participated in a wonderful crowd of people from perth and perthshire; listening to Muse made me enjoy the best 18 months of my life so far! So many stories to tell from the beginning of 2005 through to summer 2006, the guys and girls made me happy but Muse created this character inside me...Matt Bellamy is truely a genious and every tune is wonderful! My life would not be the same without Muse, special thanks to Callum and Calum for introducing me to an awesome band and for all the wonderful rehearsals we had. Thom Yorke, a musical genious on various levels! Thom (and Callum) have opened up several
