It aint no gimmick proclaims Augusta Georgia native Jimbob, about his name. This been my nickname since I was a little boy walking around in white drawls In the midst of everybody else having a flashy rap name or a name that does not pertain to them. Jimbob decided to go by the name of what his closest family and friends know him by. He simply states I was Jimbob before this rap shit and Im going to be Jimbob after this rap shit. This humble state of mind is what got this aspiring artist to the point of his first release. As with many rappers and artists their music is simply based on entertainment. Jimbobs music is based on his reality and the reality of his world around him. Unlike many artists who life and art reflect two completely different worlds. As he states When you hear Jimbob the rapper youre hearing Jimbob the person at the same time. I dont put on a mask when I hit the booth and I dont take a mask off when I leave the booth.
Growing up in a single parent household, raised by his mother Jimbob found music as his comfort and retreat at an early age. Mane like 2pac said Marvin Gaye use to sing to him. Well, shit I felt like Pac use to rap to me. Jimbob discovered young what the power of music can do for a person. Music can get you through anything man, thats why Im careful how I use it. I went through so much shit as an adolescent from struggling, slipping into the street life, rebelling in school, and just not giving a fuck about nothing or nobody. As with anybody on the wrong road in life it will be only a matter of time before something wakes you up or impedes your progress. Ive had some close calls mane, in some ways I almost shouldnt be here today. The kind of person not to glorify his past but chooses to speak the truth of it is what you have here. You almost wouldnt notice anything different in his demeanor except for his seriousness.
At age 17, Jimbob was befriended by fellow Augusta Georgia native Lil Tec. He use to always tell me to keep writing my rhymes recalls Jimbob of their early days. Then in 2002 through Lil Tec he was introduced to Whiteboi a local Atlanta producer/promotor. Its amazing how things work when your around good people and people see you actually trying. Soon after things started taking shape for the young artist. Before long he was dealing with several producers, connecting with different artist and a had full recorded album.
Now in 2005 Better Dayz Entertainment is set to release the long awaited and overdue album Jimbob Stand On My Own. As Jimbob states on the Intro for many of us this may be the realest CD we have heard in a long time. The album consists of a lot heartfelt thoughts and feelings from this 22 year old rapper.
