Highya Folks! I am Glo, DANK Momma Glo, or just Gloria...I am the co-founder of DANKinfo.com and a volunteer for a variety of drug war related activist groups.
If you like what this page has to say...please click this link and keep me operational!! (additional note to this...in the two+ years I have been an activist...I have received from work, donations, rent or food help, etc a grand total of less than $3000 total-so I am not asking for a lot...I am asking you to help me continue to do the types of things I am successful doing)
specify via email or note if you are donating to DANK, to NO PRISON LABOR, or to my efforts in general...donations will be sorted and budgeted accordingly...any non specified donation will go into a general fund, which will be used to support activists who are attending our events.Through my research, I have come to see that it is not the government we need to stop, it is the lobbyists who pay off our politicians we need to stop in order to end the drug war.
These lobbyists for the private prison system have been working since 1870 (five years after the 13th amendment ended slavery) to keep people incarcerated. Why? Read the 13th Amendment:
Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime where of the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
Section 2. Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
So...for too long these people have kept slavery alive in America, hidden under the guise of "Corrections", under the guise of "Reeducation" or "Training Programs"...major corporations, many which own stock in these prisons, are using these terms to hide free or low cost labor they are receiving...from prisoners.
Most rules in the prison labor market require that work is done by low security to mid security level offenders...
these are your drug addicts-dealers-patients even...working for $.30/hour in prison washing sheets for Sodexo Marriott Corporation...which owns 11% of the nation's largest private prison group...and thank goodness for this re eduction, this inmate training...they also get to not pay minimum wage....
The motivation for the drug war is money...pay attention to who has the money-who is controlling the passage of laws? It is lobbyists. It is a group of corrections industry folks called the American Correctional Association. The ACA, every year has a "Corrections Congress".
Last year, I wanted to disrupt their party by having a "Drug War Freedom Congress" during their event...I did not plan well and did not make it to their meeting.
Next year's "Congress" will be taking place the 7th through the 12th of August 2009 in Nashville, TN, at Opryland.
I see private prisons' role in our justice system as flawed. I have seen, and will share, the data that proves beyond any reasonable doubt that under the cover of a non-profit membership group the American Correctional Association has, does and will continue to support what amounts to some sick twisted form of legal slavery....
These are profiteers and we are there capitol...they only succeed if we are in cages. We must stand up and say no more...
I know that many people are involved in the movement in many ways, and I ask you all to take the time to consider helping me plan, pay for or otherwise pull off the Drug War Freedom Congress in Nashville, TN August 5-10th 2009.
