Spider Babies

Spider Babies were a self proclaimed garage trash/punk rock band from Oregon. They played a raw and wild mix between 60s garage & 70s punk. They are most known for their vox fuzz sound and snotty vocals mixed with plenty of sex and violence. The band started in 1992 from the remains of the Undertakers. Original line up was Kevin Shapen, Colin Gilmore, James Evans and Denice Hammericksen. After few 7"s Denice left the band and the other 3 recorded "All Fucked up" LP, and a handful of singles that got great reviews, made tons of top tens and basically put them on the map. In about 95 Colin and James both left the band, and Jesse K and Phil soon joined right before their first European tour and the recording of "Web of Hate" LP. As that line up they recorded 5 more lps, 8 or 9 singles and went to Europe twice and Japan once. After 13 singles and 6 LPs the band had its third line-up change, Kevin of course on guitar and vocals, Adam from Coco Cobra and the Killers and Silverkings on bass and Jeremy from local Portland punk bands like Bedpans and Teenage Faces on drum. As the new line up they recorded "Undressed to Kill" LP and "Ten Inches of Terror" 10" and toured the east coast and Europe. Spider Babies came to an end in 2003, when the bassist and drummer were killed in a car accident. The singer and "boss" of the band, Kevin "Spider Baby" Shapen still plays the guitar in Portland's Coco Cobra and the Killers.
