Kelley & The Cowboys

About Me

"Hailing from the foothills of NC, Kelley and The Cowboys harness a sound that is staunchly rooted in the classic country music of the 1950s and 1960s. As they masterfully cover a number of country and Americana classics--think Patsy Cline, Hank Williams Sr., Loretta Lynn and Elvis Presley--the group simultaneously operates within and reinvigorates the early country music tradition. Led by the powerful, iron-clad vocals of Kelley Breiding, the group is a rousing nostalgic throwback to timeless country, honky-tonk, western swing, and rockabilly genres." (Ithaca Times 2009) Since forming in 2005, Kelley and The Cowboys have been performing a variety of early country standards, heart wrenching ballads, rockabilly numbers, waltzes, upbeat originals, and exciting instrumentals that keep the dance floor packed. Kelley and The Cowboys have been playing festivals and clubs all over the east coast for several years now, and they officially caused a popular club to sell out of beer for the first time last year. But, this type of frenzy is really no surprise; this act has amazing musicianship and an energetic love for the music that always infects the crowd with excitement. Kelley Breiding's timeless vocals and commanding presence captivate audiences and keep people on the edge of their seat, while guitarist Ray Wood's explosive energy and his cosmic jazz stylings wow the crowd. Award winning cajun fiddler Joel Savoy chimes in with the nostalgic feel of Tommy Jackson, while maestro Matt Sircely brings home the numbers with striking instrumentals on the four string electric Mandolin. The rhythm section is driven by multi-instrumentalist Nick McMillian’s extreme slap bass playing, and the impeccable taste and expertise of Glenn Fields on the drums. Each of these musicians have been immersed in old-time music and early country roots for most, or all, of their lives, giving them a nostalgic feel to their music that just can’t be found in the music of today. Kelley and the Cowboys have recently recorded their debut album and are excited about it's release this summer. The four tracks featured on this page are from recording sessions with Savoy-Faire Studios at The Whirlybird in Opelousas, LA.

Sounds Like: "Kelley sounds more like Patsy Cline Than Patsy Cline" --Hideaway BBQ, Raleigh ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ "This Mount Airy quartet finds inspiration in timeless country artists such as Patsy Cline, Hank Williams Sr., Johnny Cash, and Loretta Lynn. The band has moments of classic country mixed in with more kicked-up rockabilly stylings. They Even find moments to sing the blues. The deep and sultry vocals of singer Kelley Breiding add a unique touch to a genre that does'nt often find female singers." Creative Loafing, June 2007, Charlotte--------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ "The Mount Airy Country Quartet, fronted by the "can't possibly sound anymore country" crooner Kelley Breiding, play that old-time American music--the Patsy Cline, Hank Sr. kind-- at honky-tonks and break-up parties. Their originals are intermingled with obscure and classic country covers, gathering western swing, blues and Rockabilly along the way, and making even the tin rafters of honky-tonks sing along."
