Kyoko Honda Kyoko Honda is the late mother of Tohru Honda in the manga and anime entitled Fruits Basket. She fell in love with student teacher Katsuya Honda, and when her parents kicked her out, they married and had Tohru.Spoiler warning: Plot or ending details follow. Kyoko used to be the leader of an all-female gang called 'The Red Butterfly', the name originating from how the tail lights of her bicycle trailed like a a bright red butterfly when she rode at night. Kyoko, though, moved on, got a job, and married Katsuya. When he died, however, she raised Tohru by herself, not to mention the care she offered Arisa Uotani and Saki Hanajima (Tohru's best friends).Near the initiation of the series, when Kyoko's past had not yet been revealed, she died in a car accident one May morning, and her daughter Tohru went to live with her grandfather, and later, the Sohma family.
