When The Music's Over

new album out in autumn

About Me

"A cool rock album that doesn't feel retro, trendy or nostalgic... It's simple: Good music that lasts. It was time someone did that." -- Der Standard (Austria)

"A indie rock band with a strong debut album" -- Kurier (Austria)

"The band, led by former Planet E front man Hannes Duscher, takes us back, musically, to a time when rock n roll was wild (and didn't just seem like it was)." -- NOW (Austria)

"It comes across like a sort of middle-European antithesis to the US and Scandinavian examples currently dominating (Kings of Leon, Mando Diao, et al...)." -- Martin Blumenau / FM4 Journal (Austria)

"They were one of the most exciting Austrian alternative acts, even before they had an album." -- GoTV online (Austria)

"Their debut album shows that When The Music's Over have what it takes to be something very special." -- Justmag (Austria)

"There's a chance that these local heroes might soon be spending less time breathing in the melancholic Viennese air. That is to say, this record is a hit with the neighbors, too." -- WOW Magazin (Germany)

"This band has what it takes to make it big. Since they sing in English, they should have no problem causing hysterics even outside their home turf." -- Piranha (Germany)

"A well-molded album - fragments of thirty years of rock n roll history virtually explode in the head of the awed listener. The only thing I can think of with a similar effect would be Nirvana. And they managed to become a household name." -- Neue Rheinzeitung (Germany)

"Their debut brings a pleasant rock 'n' roll feel that is hard to resist." -- CDSTARTS.de (Germany)

Former Planet E frontman Hannes Duscher meets Helge Waldherr, himself a staple on the music scene with his band Cosma Shiva, in Vienna in May 2002, and they decide to team up and form a band. A short while later, drummer Florian Steinringer is introduced to the band by a friend and they become a three-piece.
A steadily growing fan-base is amassed after just the first few shows, and the band is talked about as "the next big thing". In the fall of 2004, Simon Keiblinger joins on bass and When The Music's Over become a full-fledged band.

When The Music's Over's first single "Going Down" makes its first appearance on FM4's Soundselection Vol.11 in January of 2005. The single stays on the FM4 Charts for nine weeks, climbing to a high No.4 position. The follow-up, "Left Alone", is released by the band itself on its website and follows suit by hitting the airwaves and FM4 charts soon after. Videos are made for both singles by the production team of jenseide, who have previously worked with Naked Lunch and Monta. The videos receive strong airplay on GoTV. The year 2005 ends with a much talked-about debut performance by the band in Vienna's Chelsea club and a memorable appearance at the Frequency Festival.

March 2006 finally sees the release of When The Music's Over's self-titled debut album on monkey/Universal in Austria, followed by releases in Germany and Switzerland. Like the two singles that preceded it, the album is recorded and co-produced by Naked Lunch sound architect "fuzzman" Herwig Zamernik at the fuzzroom in Klagenfurt. The album's first single, "Easy", once again manages what its predecessors did: it receives airplay on FM4 and enters the radio station's charts. The jenseide produced video, on the other hand, gets restricted to a late-night slot on GoTV, due to some objectionable images.

The subsequent, expansive album tour brings When The Music's Over through all of Austria, including these highlights: sold-out gig at the Chelsea, a spot on the Donauinselfest/FM4 Stage, support act for Tocotronic at the Poolbar Festival in Feldkirch, Guertel Nightwalk, and on top of that, the band releases their fourth video, this one for "It's Our Love".

In September of 2006, WTMO contribute two songs ("Going Down", "Left Alone") to the soundtrack of the Austrian feature film "In 3 Tagen bist du tot"- a horror/slasher flick and also Austria's most successful movie of 2006. The band makes an appearance, along with members of the cast, at the movie's premiere bash, at Vienna's Porgy & Bess. The official soundtrack is released at the end of October 2006 on monkey/Universal.

"Don't Want To Know If You Are Lonely", a Husker Du cover from WTMO's debut album, is released and gets instant airplay in January 2007.
