About Me

"Ellery exhibited the verve, drive and precision of the best Celtic music...a remarkable talent." -Boston Herald
Ellery Klein's fiddling encompasses both old-style traditional Irish playing and high-energy music flavored with Scottish and American sounds. Her love of music is evident to audiences, who enjoy her great energy and skillful, delicate playing.
Currently, Ellery fiddles and sings with Boston-based all-female Irish group Long Time Courting. Fellow members include Shannon Heaton on flute and vocals, Liz Simmons on guitar and vocals, and Ariel Friedman, cello.
From 2003-2007, Ellery toured nationwide full-time as the fiddler with Irish party-world-pop group, Gaelic Storm, whose albums consistently climbed the Billboard world music charts. She is featured on their 2006 release, Bring Yer Wellies, their fifth recording, "How are we Getting Home?" and the DVD "Gaelic Storm: Live in Chicago!
Ellery completed an M.A. in Traditional Irish Music Performance at the University of Limerick's Irish World Music Center in 2001. That year, she also self-produced and recorded her solo CD "Salt & Pepper," a recording the Irish American news called "a stunning debut".In 2001 and 2002, she toured with Irish banjo player Olive Brennan and Scottish pianist James Ross. Their fresh, innovative approach to traditional music was very well received. Ellery has also toured with Whisky Before Breakfast, jighead and Cathy Ryan.
Her fiddling can be heard on the soundtrack of the DVD series The Golden Era of Nascar.
She has produced two recordings for Irish dancers in collaboration with Gaelic Storm drummer, Ryan Lacey, Step Into the Beat: Modern Irish Dance Music. and Kick Into the Beat:Modern Irish Dance Music (vol. II) due out in January 2009.
