I am here for Dating, Friends and Networking

About Me

a droopy panda.

and a two-hour hourglass.

My Interests

alphabetization, cardigan sweaters, cats, cute things, drums, eyeglasses, fancy cheese, guitars, hardwood floors, karaoke, kawaii, maps and globes, news, reading, robots-- especially space robots, scooters, speaking japanese, stationery, sushi, vintage clothes

I'd like to meet:

penguins, puffins, polar bears.

also people who play music, and people who don't roll their eyes at my fixation (not quite obsession) with bizarro cuteness.

also, could be nice to get a date or something.

Movies:

Dead Man, The Royal Tenenbaums, Seven Samurai and most other Kurosawa, Spirited Away, Wings of Desire, David Lynch, Clue, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Hong Kong movies featuring Chow Yun Fat or Tony Leung, the Kill Bill movies, a lot of over-the-top kung fu movies, Ong-Bak, Infernal Affairs, maybe half of John Waters' movies, Gross Pointe Blank...

Really, I'll watch almost anything as long as it's a well-done example of its genre, but I don't feel a need to get scared for no reason.

Television:

Iron Chef, the Simpsons, Twin Peaks, Buffy, MST3K, Project Runway

Books:

Haruki Murakami, Lynda Barry, Kurt Vonnegut, Margaret Atwood, Banana Yoshimoto, Raymond Carver, Jeffrey Eugenides, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Angela Carter, Michael Chabon, the Harry Potter books, Jhumpa Lahiri, F. Scott Fitzgerald

I also am a history fiend, and have a special weakness for books about scary dictators and other happy topics, like World War II, and China's Cultural Revolution. An 800-pg biography of Mao? Bring it on!

My Blog

atheology

Ok, that's not a word. But it maybe should be, since I've found myself reading two super-duper theology-heavy books in a row, despite my general lack of interest in religion. Usually I'm not all tha...

jzp as fashion editor: fun new online toy

This is the awesomest new toy I've found in a long time. I've been keeping my eyes open for "paper doll" type sites, but this comes darn close. Basically, I just get to pretend that I'm a fashion ed...

bookmark

Fainthearted readers, beware. It took me a solid week to get through Ghost Wars; it's just that dense. For what it is-- almost a textbook, really-- it's well-written. And, given the subject matter,...

minor book binge

Last night I had dinner with my mom at my grandparents' house, but before I could come home, I absolutely had to stop at Petco to get food for the screaming cats. The closest Petco to their house is ...

gratuitous kittens

I usually try to avoid being a video-poster, but this improved my day at least 80%. Also, you don't need to have the sound on to enjoy it. In fact, rather than listening to the thwack thw...

camerama

Very exciting! My real-film camera has a roll of film in it that dates back to my college graduation, in 1998. But today I have obtained a digital camera. And now I can admit that my old profile pi...

Rove to leave White House Aug. 31

This headline brings tears of joy to my eyes. Can he still disregard Congressional subpoenas once he no longer works in the White House? More likely this is step one in his plan to flee to South Ameri...

brief public service announcement

I would like to caution each and every one of you against doing what I did last night. Do not-- repeat-- do not allow yourself to get sucked into reading Cormac McCarthy's The Road at 11:30 or 12:00 ...

ice maker!

Possibly the funnest thing about having an ice cube maker in my freezer? Putting an ice cube or two in the cats' water dish. They both love and deeply distrust the ice cubes.
