Well, Rude Awakening was a band in the 80's from Aberdeen, WA. Aberdeen sounds familiar-doesn't it? Anyway, this band derived from other bands like "Rampage" & "Prowler" from Hoquiam to "Black-Ice", "Rouges Gallery" & "Flatt Black" from Aberdeen. When the band first got together we started playing covers and needed a band name quickly...with the usual undecideds, we came up with "The Force" which pretty much was a lame name...considering none of us were from the "dark side." At this time the band was: Scott Gwinn-Guitar, Marty Johnson-Drums, Brian Smith-Bass and Doug George-vox.We majored in pop to heavy metal, like: Judas, Scorps, Motley, Ratt, Van Halen. We even did some Brian Adams and stuff like Golden Earring...anyway, when we started writing songs, we came up with "Rude Awakening." We saved some money from cover gigs and went into a studio called "Steve Lawson Studio's" in downtown Seattle where our friends, Metal Church were recording at. Electra Records had signed on Metal Church and they were making records and were touring the world with the likes of Metallica. It was a pretty amazing time I remember...There were also names like TKO, and Fifth Angel in Lawson's too. When we went in to do our four song demo we grabbed Scott McAllister to take on a second guitar sound, which was really cool! Curdt Vanderhoof came in from Metal Church to lend us his hand at producing. Our engineer was Terry Date! I'm just gonna tell you this...google THAT GUYS NAME and see what you find. He was a younger guy just working in a studio in Seattle at that time...hehehehe...We played shows all over Grays Harbor and in Oly too. We later played the Seattle scene before there even was a "Seattle Scene" which was a lot to speak of at that time. We played shows with Mace, Hammer Head, Heir Appearant and others...Basically, after a few years of knockin' around the band slowly started changing members. Scott Gwinn left and was replaced by John (Johnny Rotten) Carpenter on guitar and Marty Johnson left and was replaced by Duke Harner on drums. Later Doug George left and was replaced by Alan Dean on vox, only to welcome back Scott Gwinn as John Carpenter left.Other than alot of good times and some more home studio type recordings that is pretty much the story of Rude Awakening. We were around about five years on the Harbor and were quite thee musical staple that most had stopped in and heard from time to time. The music you hear on this site is the "Lawson-Demo" and there will be some music added soon displaying Alan Dean on vox too. So stay tuned...
