The organizer of kickin' it and havin' a good time; makin' music that sounds like nobody else; promotin' other mu'fucka'z as well as myself; up right now while other cats are sleep!"I'm Already Ready!"“The Lifeâ€Mr. Jaize VanCrump was born an only child in
Lake Charles, LA on April 22, 1977. His
mother was a part time hustler and a single
mother working full time. At that time,
between the late 70’s and early 90’s, his
mother held 2 jobs constantly while hustling
weed, pills, & other party favorites for that
genre. His biological father’s shoes were
around, but filled by a man who assumed the
stepfather position.
That man, whom “J†called “popsâ€, later
united with “J’s†mother and gave birth to a
younger sister and brother for young “Crumpâ€.
It was about 15 years later when ‘Crump found
out he had brothers and sisters scattered
around the South and Midwest by his
biological father. (Poppa was a rollin’ stone!)
However, it was his mother that turned him on
to music and allowed his love for it to grow.
His mother was the one who bought him his
first albums and his first boom box. The
albums were L.L. Cool J (I’m bad), The Rappin’
Duke, and Crush Groove.
‘Crump used to stay up late nights when his
mother would throw one of her socially
famous holiday parties (any holiday was a
reason to throw parties for her). He’d listen to
the radio stations all night and record the Hip-
Hop shows in its entirety on the new pack of
cassette tapes he got with his new boom box.
He was so lost in the music that when all of
the tapes had been used, he’d grab any tape
he could and record, even if it meant recording
over what he just acquired. All he wanted was
the “new stuffâ€.
His path was anything but a smooth road. In
the Mid-90’s off in Omaha, NE, he lost 3 close
family members within a span of 8 months; all
to gang violence at the ages of 14, 15, and 19.
He was 15 yrs old then, and in the midst of
experimenting with the streets himself. Over
the next 4 years he’d suffer losses to family
and friends to jail, death, or the pressures of
life. He lost his father in 98’ to Louisiana
Police in a drug raid. ‘Crump didn’t find out
until almost a month after the death. He would
go on to lose his grandmother and his mother
consecutively in 1999’ and 2000. Through the
years, ‘Crump has been the survivor.
Now out of school, away from sports, and
enduring the turmoil of a diminishing family,
‘Crump turned to his first love.
Today he heads an entrepreneurial team of
Artist, Producers, and business associates at
HOODMADE Entertainment, LLC.“The Timesâ€It was fall of 1994 when the conception began.
Javon VanCrump was in High School (college
“Lit†class to be exact) writin’ raps focusin’ in
on one in particular named “HOODMADEâ€. It
was titled after a quote from his uncle Ronald
who was the first to go in the string of 3
personal losses for ‘Crump. Ronald told
‘Crump in their last “real†talk, “I’m doin’ what
I’m doin’ in these streets for us in this house.
We are all HOODMADE in here and have to
hustle over somethin’, or else we wouldn’t be.
I’ll take care of this end, and you get your
music and sports together; maybe we’ll open a
business.â€
The rap game was a part of his life before, but
at the time it became an essential for life. He
was a one-man group, a one-man label, and a
one-man voice that he felt needed to be heard.
It was winter of 1997 when the birth became
official.
“J†was in college workin’ on material with his
“god-brother†Keylend “Young Kno’†Wright.
The material was hot and they felt the
chemistry (before college they never worked
on music together). They decided to form a
group and went through several name ideas.
‘Crump suggested that they be called
HOODMADE, quaintly named after a rap he
wrote with his uncle in mind and the business
visions he had. It was an immediate go-ahead
from ‘Kno, but it had to have some meaning on
account that they both thought the name was
catchy. After several acronym ideas,
HOODMADE briefly stood for “Hoppin’ Over
Obstacles Makin’ All our Dollar’s Equalâ€. That
lasted all but 48 hours.
The next day ‘Crump took a blunt and an idea
over to ‘Kno’s dorm room and it was settled.
HOODMADE then and forever would stand for,
“Hustlin’ Over Obstacles Daily Makin’ All
Dolla'z Equalâ€. For life!
There were in a sense, three forefathers.
‘Crump, and ‘Kno. The third was ‘Crump’s
uncle Lil’ Ronald, on account that the vision of
a business and the name HOODMADE came
from him in his last days.
It’s been HOODMADE every since.
Since then, ‘Crump has had his stint with legal
problems, jail, drugs, guns, gangs, more
deaths, and women. All were distractions that
would’ve made any average man call it quits.
But in his mind, “you can’t be considered one
to hustle over obstacles if you quit on every
one of em.â€â€œThe Nowâ€The first official release under HOODMADE
Entertainment was in 1999, which was an EP
release from Mr. Jaize VanCrump entitled “All
He Wantedâ€. The EP was set to release the
first single from the long awaited and over due
full-length album from ‘Crump called “The First
Book of ‘Crumpâ€, and contained 3 tracks that
were not to be released on the album. There
were more underground releases to follow.
‘Crump assembled a crew and a HOODMADE
compilation with material from all the current
members and associates from the time. The
compilation was titled “Seldom Seen, Often
Heard: Volume 1â€. Next it was another EP
from ‘Crump called “The Lost Pages†followed
by a slew of releases from new HOODMADE
members Joseph Junior ( the “Rise and Shine
Time†and “Missing Pieces†compilations),
Double Dash (“Street Dreams†and “State Your
Nameâ€), Young Kno’ (“Rawâ€), and the follow up
compilation to Volume 1, “Seldom Seen, Often
Heard Volume 2-The Re-birthâ€.
The next album due to be released by
HOODMADE is set to be “The First Book of
‘Crump†which will make the transition from
regional to national sales.
