Unless you have been under a rock for most of 2008, you probably have already heard of the buzz surrounding the up and coming songwriting talent of Dublins Stephen Branigan. Taking inspiration from fellow Dubliners Declan O'Rourke and Damien Rice, Stephen set about recording his debut EP "Tales from an overgrown Heart" in one of Irelands finest studios - Salt Recording Studio, in late 2008.
Testament to the growing buzz surrounding young Stephen was shown by the musicians who were asked to play on the EP. Wayne Sheehy (Cactus World News, Damien Dempsey, Sinead O' Connor and Ronnie Wood) laid the beat bedrock whilst Garvan Gallagher (Hot House Flowers, Cactus World News) made everything sit with the lowend bass melodies that make Stephens material so unique.
So what's next in the pipeline for Stephen? "Who knows? I'm not one for making plans, but I've managed to play some cracking shows in 2008, and am really looking forward to getting the new tracks out there and winning fans over the hard way by gigging as often as possible" says Stephen in one of Dublins now famous smoking area of Whelans. "One things for sure, I'm going to have a ball playing them!!"
Stay tuned and listen in!
