About Me

Jake Furey
In a world dominated by manufactured plastic pop, reality music TV shows and Internet pop stars, it's a breath of fresh air when you discover REAL talent. The sort of talent, that comes along once every few years.
JAKE FUREY is a wonderfully gifted and talented singer/songwriter. Stripped and laid bare, his musical compositions comprise of brilliantly crafted lyrics, memorable and heartfelt songs, sung with conviction, vibrancy and emotion.

'Spirit'

Born and raised in Scotland and now a native Londoner, Jake is not a product of a stage/drama school, a reality TV show or even the BRITS academy for that matter. A self taught pianist, Jake's song writing stems simply from the trials, tribulations and emotions we all face each day in our lives, as we feel love, pain, loneliness, joy, hope, sorrow and regret. His songs display a real depth of maturity beyond his years, tinged with fragility and emotion of spine tingling proportions.
Already Jake's music and depth of sound has been likened to a musical montage of ELTON JOHN, SEAL, STING, PAULO NUTTINI and JACK JOHNSON. Citing influences from some of the most legendary artists and bands of the last three decades from Curtis Mayfield to Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra, Prince, Earth Wind & Fire, The Rolling Stones, Afro Cuban All Stars to hip hop producer Timbaland. Jake..s universal appeal lies in his honesty; there is no pretence, no manufactured image, no hype, just good solid song writing and a real self belief in his music and his own abilities and letting the music speak for itself...
Jake explains: My song writing comes from every day experiences, the things we all go through in life with relationships, family and loved ones to friends, acquaintances, places, people you meet. Sometimes I will get inspiration from travelling on the underground observing, absorbing and soaking up influences. Sometimes just realising you're alive each day is one of the most powerful feelings you can experience as a human being, understanding and appreciating everything around you.
One of the most revered music producers of our time, the multi Grammy Award winning NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN (Mariah Carey, George Michael, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and Diana Ross) is a firm supporter of Jake Furey describing him as a unique talent with great songs, reminding me of a young Sting in his prime. The super cool producer has also described Jake as the British John Mayer.
Jake adds It's nice to have people comparing your material and musical sounds to such artists. I would like to think that my music is written from the heart and my experiences of life and how I interpret those emotions and feelings. It's about writing good songs that make you think, songs that are memorable, that have a resonance to the listener. You only have to listen to songs written and performed by Elton John and Bernie Taupin, between them they have written and performed some of the most magical songs of our generation.
Jake's music fuses R&B, rock, jazz, folk and hip hop to create a very distinctive and unique style of music. Jake's approach to his music has also earned him the respect and standing of some of the world's best session musicians including the likes of bass player Livingstone Brown, drummer Joe Barboza, lead guitarists Tony Remy Emrys Baird, Marc Ralph and Brian Neil. Saxphonist and flutist Gary Barnacle, keyboardists Octavia Sousa and Bubblers. Between these great musicians they have performed with the likes of Kylie, Maxi Priest, David Bowie, Terrence Trent D'Arby, Annie Lennox, Rod Stewart, Tina Turner, Level 42, Roger Daltrey, Gary Numan and Gwen Stefani to name but a few. Many of them, giving their time on Jake..s debut album for no more than cups of coffee and a few chocolate bars!
Other highly respected music industry figures to become fans of Jake Furey include Violet Brown (Uber Buyer for Wherehouse Chain of Music Stores ..USA) who was responsible for getting The Black Eyed Peas and Macy Gray signed. Jake has the talent and capability to be a huge star, he has a wonderful voice and wonderful songs, and I am a real fan. Jake has that real star quality that separates him from the crowd and I should know I've met them all!
Richard Bray, a 25 year music industry veteran and lawyer to the Rolling Stones, Joss Stone and Live8 concurs; a wonderful talent with great songs, with the kind of voice that comes along once every ten years.
Jake's live performances have been selective and a rare treat over the last four years gigging in London's Cobden Club, the Ten Rooms and The Bedford performing intimate gigs in intimate spaces to headlining the annual HMV Open Air Music Festival in Covent Garden in 2002 and 2003 with a twelve piece band. Jake..s infamous Tin Can Music Sessions were also a regular Wednesday night feature at Notting Hill's trendy Woody's club and Sugar Reef before he began writing and recording material for his debut album. After witnessing his stellar performances at their open air music concerts, HMV magazine proclaimed Jake Furey as a rising star.
After spending almost two years in the studio writing and recording his debut album, simply entitled FAITH IN MYSELF Jake now plans to finally release the self penned album in 2007 on his own mini record label GRAFFITI ENTERTAINMENT which will be followed by a series of intimate London gigs and a music industry showcase. One thing is for sure Jake Furey believes in his music, his ability and Faith In Himself...
