Tesfa Baruch is still at work. I started singing and making tapes with friends and familiy at home around 1984. People started to take notice when the tapes were played outdoors and they wanted to know "who's that on the mike?" I was surprised by the feedback and started to take the music a bit more serious. 1992 Miami Fla. I recorded a part on "Real Bad Boys Move In Silence" By Fresh Kid Ice and Phat daddy, for for the album China Man on Luke Records. I recorded under my name, Tesfa. When I built enough confidence I started to perform live at sound systems, open mikes, and stage shows in New York.
My first stage name was N.A.T. T.U.R.N.E.R.
The name means...'nown as Tesfa The Unconquered Rebel Never Ever Recaptued.
I left music alone for a few years and started writing and recording again in 2002. I released my own Cd "Familyman" in 2007 using the name Daddy Tesfa.
The title track is still being played in some places in Jamaica and is always a requested tune when I go places. The video for familyman features my mother, children and wife. It also features an aspiring actress named Orinthia Robinson who did an excelent job playing a police officer in the video.
While in Jamaica to promote the Cd, I changed my stage name to Shaka King. I later realised there is a rapper named Shaka The King. After we communicated I abandoned use of the name. I recorded a few unreleased tunes under the name ImIrie. Over the last few years I was urged to use the name Warrior Priest. The name was given to me by brethren who say the name accurately describes my nature "militant and Spiritual." I decided to give in and honor the request to use the name I've held to be so personal. I am focused on self production at this time. I am building riddims and recording on a regular basis. My first self produced album will be released in 2009. As always... songs about life, songs of freedom and sometimes a bit of humor.
One Love.
