Love is when you can't be apart from someone for too long...you're always thinking of them, and when you're with them you never want to say goodbye. Love is far from simple. It's quite complex. It's a mix of about everything. It's sadness, joy, passion, hatred, excitement, it's almost every feeling you can imagine and more. You know love when you find it, it's that person that when they smile it brightens up your day, you can't stop staring at them for fear of losing them, they're always on your mind, you daydream of being with them, even if they're less than 20 feet away...and you can't stand it when they're not with you, the worst feeling you could ever feel is when you know that person you love is not with you...you can't tell when love will happen, you just know when it does, that moment when you first lay eyes on that person, and you never want to look away...that is love. Nothing less.

Today, when I awoke, I suddenly realized that this is the best day of my life, ever! There were times when I wondered if I would make it to today; but I did! And because I did I'm going to celebrate! Today, I'm going to celebrate what an unbelievable life I have had so far: the accomplishments, the many blessings, and, yes, even the hardships because they have served to make me stronger. I will go through this day with my head held high, and a happy heart. Too often we don't realize what we have until it's gone... too often we wait too long to say "I'm sorry, I was wrong" .
Am Shareen and here are a few things about my life.
Born in Jamaica to two remarkable parents Jennifer and Alton Douglas. Along with six other siblings we grew up in a small community call Bamboos Ridge. Growing up:
I remember waking up at 3am running to the springs, just so we could get enough water to last us for the day before the rest of the community. I remember carrying those buckets on my head, the only thing that separates my head from the bucket is an old shirt I would use as a cushion. I remember climbing trees just to get my favorite fruits, the scar on the left side of my face serves as proof. I remember racing the rain, as it would start at the top of the hill, I sometimes loses the race because of the sharp rocks that penetrates my bare feet. I remember getting hit by a bike, the scar on my right arm scares me till this day. I remember watching the guys playing football (soccer) in the middle of the streets. I remember my father leaving out at 6am to work on the farm just so we would have food on our table. I remember walking 3 miles with a 50lb bag of produce on my head, because the road was too narrow for vehicles to come, just so my mother could go to sell at the market. I remember leaving for school 4am in the mornings, the only light we had was a glass bottle filled with kerosene and a rolled up newspaper as wick. Just so we could catch the one bus that takes us to our destination. I remember getting home at 8pm at nights or later, because we missed the bus. I remember the great friends I had, the ones the that could never be replaced. I remember my Grandmom telling me to keep on going, even when my will power was no where to be found. RIP Grandma.
Yes! I've been through it all, things that I fail to mention. You see my life wasnt all golden but yet I came out a strong women. There are definitely times when I tend to forget the obstacles i overcame, but not anymore, am gonna live everyday from now on like its my LAST!!! Am gonna laugh when nothing is funny, smile when it seems like there is no way. Love when my heart is only holding on by a thread. Walk with my head held high. I didnt have to be here, but someone saw that I deserved a chance, he saw the pain in my eyes and he turn that pain into strenght. He took away the scars that were so visible to man. He gave me a smile thats wide enough to capture hearts, skin that is thick enough to stand the lashes of bitter tongues. When I think about my past it does bring tears to my eyes, but I believe that God is gonna deal with all the people that hurt me the ones that took my innocence and stole my joy. Its all over now, am smiling more than ever and loving even when am not loved. My future is now inspired by my past. Am ready to move on.
Today, I will share my excitement for life with other people. I'll make someone smile. I'll go out of my way to perform an unexpected act of kindness for someone I don't even know.
Today, I'll give a sincere compliment to someone who seems down. I'll tell a child how special he or she is. I'll tell someone I love, just how deeply I care for them and how much they mean to me.
Today is the day I quit worrying about what I don't have and start being grateful for all the wonderful things God has already given me. I'll remember that to worry is just a waste of time because my faith in God and his Divine Plan ensures everything will be just fine.
And tonight, before I go to bed, I'll go outside and raise my eyes to the heavens. I will stand in awe at the beauty of the stars and the moon, and I will praise God for these magnificent treasures. As the day ends and I lay my head down on my pillow, I will thank the Almighty for the best day of my life. And I will sleep the sleep of a contented child, excited with expectation because I know tomorrow is going to be the best day of my life, ever!
People often say that 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder,' and I say that the most liberating thing about beauty is realizing that you are the beholder.
