catharsis in the works...

About Me

A friendly recluse, I'm reserved til I get to know you. But it's all over after that. Loyal to the end for friends and people worth it. Could dive into the sappy crap, but who really likes long walks on the beach at sunset and soft sweet flowers? Unless it's on some foreign sand and the flowers are all wild. Ok, also has tendency to go on cynical, off-kilter rampages at times. But I'd probably still do your dishes.

My Interests

Museum/galleries, spazzing out over tea, getting out of town, the smell of leather, the coldness of metal, wrought iron, polynesian/tribal tattoos and art, sushi, ouzo, distant lands, coolgeeks, glasses, gemology, tofutti rocks i don't care what you say. Leather boots, falling asleep in the bath, cold wine on naughty parts. Discovering new places, learning new things, hearing new music. Peering into that open door..

I'd like to meet:

Pondering over it, you realize you should really be realistic about who you'd like to meet. Sure your hero would be cool, but kinda anti-climactic too. The enigma keeps it going. So for now, you and probably your quiet, quirky friend. A true Kahuna, a lapidarist (actually have met a slew lately, but someone MY age would be nice), an investor(who's looking to invest), a business genius who wants to share their brain, someone who's cool and doesn't even know it. A cohort, a sidekick. Someone who's not looking for the T&A pics like a cheap chinese take out menu. Someone who's not afraid to come up and talk to me, I may look pissed but I'm usually not. Please be yourself, lived in LA long enough to have that bad plastic taste in my mouth. I've found my best friend, but realize I also need girlfriends. Or just regular folks. Who like music. And art things. And drinks. And who can hold a conversation. If you're trying to add me, please read about me or at least my musical tastes before hand. (Read between the lines, no rap, hip hop, smooth, wanna-be pimp daddys.) I'm not trying to boost my numbers here for my ego.

Music:

Lots and usually loud. Probably what you've got playing right now. alterna, industrial, goth, rockabilly, psychobilly, blues if I'm feelin it. Nick Cave, Tom Waits, VNV Nation, APB, Assemblage 23, Siouxsie, Cure, Pixies, PJ Harvey, DCD, Cult, Xymox, Buzzcocks, Bauhaus, Cocteau Twins, Echo& the Bunnymen, Jesus &MaryChain, Killing Joke, X, Ministry, Clash, Rev Horton Heat, Cramps, Misfits, Ramones, Front 242, Sugarcubes, Damned, Cheap Trick, Swans, more 80's. Johnny Cash, flamenco, classical, ethnic, gypsy, old school punk, lots of local music (The GENERATORS, THE DIRTY PARTS, DEADBEAT SINATRAS), Puccini, Ravel, Peggy Lee, Hoagie Carmichael, Celia Cruz ...you get the idea. If it's got a tune, I'd probably like it. (do people actually list EVERY single band they've ever liked?!)

Movies:

The good ol' classics (Metropolis), ones where you have to read them fast (Kurasawa/Almodovar), animation (Japanese anime, Wallace and Grommet, Spike and Mike), mobster (Scarface), quirky (Clerks), fantasy/sci-fi (LOTR, Blade Runner) documentaries, cinematic marvels (Baraka, Koyaanisqatsi) and the kind where I don't wish for my 2 hrs back. (see above comment. do you really want to know every film I've ever raved about?)

Television:

Hate to admit it, getting into some. Travel and Discovery channel (ideas for future trips), TMC, AMC. The Office (the BBC one also). Really try to not have to follow anything in particular. But the noise is good sometimes.

Books:

Kurt Vonnegut. I mean, how do you explain his stuff to people? The Kama Sutra, Autobiography of a Yogi, Edgar Allan Poe, Anne Rice, travel and research books. Currently: The Art of Happiness by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, The Bonesetter's Daughter and The Most Evil Men and Women in History.

Heroes:

That guy who after a lifetime of failures, finally found happiness and success with penning "Jingle Bells". And Joseph Campbell, he was a brilliant man that I would have loved to have had as an uncle or something.
