BEIT EL HOB
Beit El Hob means ‘House of Love’ in Arabic. It is a social, support and advocacy group, for people living in Australia, who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, intersex and queer and are identified ethnically or culturally with Arabic speaking communities.
We organise regular social events and gatherings for our members and their friends, family etc to socialise, network and affirm a sense of community.
We provide support and referrals to queer Arabs who may need assistance. We also represent queer Arab issues in relevant fora, including committees, schools, meetings, demonstrations and conferences
We also aim to influence the broader communities we are part to take into account queer Arab issues and to challenge racism and/or homophobia.
We believe that;
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people never ceded their sovereign rights to the land known as Australia. We support truth, peace, justice and sovereignty for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Queer Arab people exist.
Queer Arab people have the right to live free from harassment and violence.
Queer Arab people are members of broader Arab Australian communities.
That Queer Arab people are part of broader GLBTQI communities.
Queer Arab people experience racism from the GLBTQI community, and homophobia from our communities of origin.
We support the choices that Queer Arab people make about their sexuality and acknowledge that ‘coming out’ may not be a priority.
That Queer Arab people are diverse in their opinions and beliefs.
That we support the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and nationhood.
