I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

After hop, skip, jump, and tra-la-la ing from coast to coast, I have finally settled down (somewhat)near my family in beautiful coastal Virginia. I teach high school kids all about business and I love it! The kids crack me up, and make me VERY grateful that I never have to experience that teen angst again. Ever. I turned 30 this year, which apparently grants me membership to some kind of club...I also just returned from my first big "out of the country" experience when my baby sister got married in Mexico! Woohoo! In the meantime though, I enjoy the company of a loving family and local friends, and I miss my SB friends (that's short for Santa Barbara) more than they could ever imagine. Darn those 3,000 miles!

My Interests

I love to be outside. I spend an inordinate amount of time gardening, playing with my furry nieces and nephews, and just soaking up the sun. I really like hiking and camping when I can, and would love to take surfing back up if the opportunity ever presented itself.

I'd like to meet:

Oprah, Condoleeza Rice, Jesus, my great-great grandparents, and my future husband (not necessarily in that order).

Music:

I have some eclectic tastes and often don't follow the crowd. I love to find independent labeled stuff that some local artist did (only if it's good, of course). That being said, my mp3 player I use for the gym is filled with Shakira, Jamiroquai, Kellis, and so on. I also love smooth jazz, and anything by Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, and Michael Buble'.

Movies:

Things that make me laugh and smile. I just saw "Holiday" over, well, the holiday. It was great. A TOTAL chick flick. Sometimes it's just what a girl needs.

Television:

I actually don't have cable (what! Gasp! Are you crazy?!?) I initially did it to save a few bucks (since I mostly use it for background noise), but I really don't miss it. And I love how much I get done since I'm not sucked into some random infomercial about cutlery...

Books:

I constantly read, usually several books a week outside of work. What can I say? I love the written word.

Heroes:

Easy. My parents, for sure. They epitomize strength, love, compassion, faith, integrity and character. I love them for that.

My Blog

Rrrrr. I think that covers it.

Why exactly must I make everything that happens to me such an undertaking? I mean, cheese-and-rice-on-toast people! So to start off, I'm moving. Yes, again. No, nobody will help me. And for good reaso...

Oh Mexico...

What an amazing, amazing place. Did I mention amazing?  We were 50 miles south of Cancun, on the Mayan Riviera. The place we stayed was more like a small city, it was so big! There were 2 enormou...

I am a nice person goddammit and I deserve friends too! I mean, seriously, for fuck's sake, how old are we? It's truly disheartening to realize that, beyond the college degrees, 9 to 5 jobs, home own...

Adventures in driving

Have you ever seen that commercial? You know, the one where the man and woman, driving in their car, phone in the final car payment? As soon as the woman announces, "it's paid," the rearview mirror fa...

A diatribe on dieting

...well, maybe not so much a diatribe as strongly worded commentary. And not so much dieting as health choices in general, but I digress. So, as everyone is well aware, the dreaded bathing suit seaso...

Life in a single woman's world

You know, there are a lot of things I love about being single. The absolute freedom--to do what you want when you want, make or break plans at your own whim, having the remote all to yourself, eating ...

Into the deep...

This is gonna be a great year, I can just feel it! The last few weekends have been so balmy and warm that I've taken the dogs to the beach and inhaled that wonderful salty air. It was almost like Cali...

A new life...

Emerson was once quoted as saying: " Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new d...

A question of grace...

You know what I love best about the Christmas season? Grace. The opportunities to give it, the opportunities to receive it, and the glaring reminder that most people have decided to forgo that opportu...

Oh yeah, she's back...

You know, I think for a time I misplaced my confidence and sense of self worth. I'm not sure when it happened. Perhaps between the change of seasons, or stream of endless mini-crises for the last 2 mo...
