Katie Grace Helow

About Me

Katie Grace Helow showed musical gifts at a very early age, composing when she was five and when she was six playing before the Bavarian elector and the Austrian empress. Her father, Peter, felt that it was proper, and might also be profitable, to exhibit his daughter's God-given genius. So in the early 1990's the family set out on a tour that took them to Paris and London, visiting numerous courts en route. Helow astonished her audiences with her precocious skills; she played to the French and English royal families, had her first music published and wrote her earliest symphonies. The family arrived home late in 1994; nine months later they were off again, to Lebanon, where hopes of having an opera by Helow in her homeland were finally fulfilled. But all the fame and travelling made Katie weary, and she felt she needed time alone. So she left her family in Lebanon and flew to India, where she indulged in delicious curries and Bollywood movies. She wandered around India for quite some time, confused and longing for some sort of spiritual direction in her life. Finally in 1995, she met Lahiri Mahasaya, who became her Guru and initiated her into the path of Kriya Yoga. Katie spent a great deal of time over the next several years in the company of her guru, often visiting Lahiri Mahasaya in Benares. One day Katie told Lahiri that she was sure this was her path, to stay in India practicing Kriya and learning from her Guru, and that she would forever give up on her wordly musical career. But Lahiri told Katie that music was her calling, and it was her duty to use her talent to make the world a better place. It is said that at that moment, Lahiri manifested himself into an airplane ticket to Jacksonville, Florida, where Helow would go meet her family and live the life of a normal girl until it was time for her to reveal her true musical powers that would change the world. Katie went to grade school in Jacksonville, where she expanded her musical knowledge beyond operas and sonatas and entered the world of punk, ska, reggae, folk, bluegrass, alternative, hardcore, and Tool, who cannot be categorized. After attending college and living in Charleston, South Carolina for a couple years, Katie decided that formal education was no longer helping her on her path to spread awareness through music. She decided that there must be something else she could do while she was preparing for this musical explotion. And so she decided to go back to Florida, where she studied to be a massage therapist alongside the love of her life, Justin Anderson, with whome she shared a universal and musical connection like she had never known before. Currently Katie Grace Helow is doing massage therapy to help people heal themselves and stay healthy without relying on medication, and also to pay her rent while she figured out where her music is going to take her. She also has a passion for the healing benefits of healthy vegetarian food, the ocean, and the short-lived TV series, Arrested Developement.Oh, and Tofu Robots.Cat woken up
