Born in NY and importantly influenced by a 80's Bronx block party, LAMP suddenly found himself surrounded by cats DJ'n and MC'n and immediately gravitated towards it. Overwhelmed by the fluid spontaneity, originality and upfront blatant expression, hip-hop and the culture became a nation where JonLAMP's citizenship was mandatory. From a radio show on a college station to open mic nights, from a 4-track recording session to professional studio visits and experimental demo work, from an all out recording and touring rap group to a dramatic solo artist honing a lifetime path, its all about the music. Theres more than meets the eye. Since there is a music background in the family, it's even more relevant. LAMP's great grandfather played for a world famous symphony orchestra, traveling the world, and is somewhat responsible for LAMP literally being in NYC- USA for that matter. Mad people in LAMP's family have a musical ability or connection one way or the other and that inherited history was like a lighthouse beacon for JonLAMP. Not one of those relatives had any ties to the music business, which for some may be humble note, and LAMP endured a struggle not uncommon in the recording industry. In the late 90's, LAMP was the member of a group (SESH) signed to a major related but now defunct indy label which released a full LP (4535) but after suffering a raw deal- left the label with it and completed a follow up (4535:epilogue) with the group, and then went solo. This is the growth and expansion. The strength and patience. The first solo independent release by JonLAMP,"SPOTLIGHT Vol. 1", is currently available at JONLAMP.COM , as well as the 2 previous group releases, a full picture gallery, streaming audio and video, links to reviews and articles, with more to come. Also available is the street approved EMP Studios graffiti documentary DVD "Sick Wit It" , which features JonLAMP as the mastermind behind the soundtrack to an incredible visual display of graf selections from the NYC area. Google it. Underneath all of that, LAMP has worked with and around some of the most popular artists in hip-hop, in some of the most respected and disrespected studios, at some of the hottest venues, toured the world with strangers and other numerous rap criminals, but most importantly, blazed Brooklyn, kept the Bronx bouncin and literally moved Manhattan, laced Los Angeles, missionaried Miami, stripped Hotlanta, shitted on Chi-town, drowned Denver, slapped Cincinnati, flipped Philly, cracked Canada, farted on France, altered Amsterdam, lost London and nearly slit Spain's throat, just ask. The struggle of an artist is what happens to life when you are busy recording the album. The dedication to the completion of his solo works and personal memoirs, as a wordsmith recording brainiac, keep this underground artist on point. Reaching the world with his music is another story altogether.. There are always a set of ears to bless with the heat. The ability to adapt, mold and change the approach, content and delivery, inevitably reinventing his sound over and over to keep the freshness and diversity a staple, is what makes LAMP an incredible artist. It's what influenced him as an outsider. It made him an insider. It's probably the most important aspect in his recording career. Check the website, cop an album, holla at the kid, or jus listen. And just LAMP. 100.

Hunger, drive, devotion, originality, but mostly the unknown. Highly.

Sounds Like: STILL HUNGRY. A DRAMALIFE CHAMPION. CONTINUALLY EVOLVING.

I got the radar up, the world is under attack.. wut the.. Im sayin.. where u at?

As for the bright lights and silver screens, JonLAMP made his film debut during the 1995 full production music video for an early recording titled, "wutchya got", which was included in a press kit for SESH, his Bronx based rap group. That actual song never made it to their debut album but was influential in his quest to marry video to audio. Later, LAMP appeared in a movie called "Boricua's Bond", which starred BigPun, and was quickly ushered into the obscure film world surrounding hip hop culture. After a few independent ventures such as the full length graffiti documentary "Sick Wit it" and music videos like the one above titled "NotRedy", LAMP still looks forward to making more waves in the field by combining his interests in hip hop and the film world- and the latest is his involvement with Loaded Language. Keep readin..

Check the clip below- 'Endless Knot', a short film made by Loaded Language Studios in association with Scion Toyota. JonLAMP participated as Production Assistant during film shoots and made another impact on the film world with this cult classic which stars underground rap legend Thirstin Howl III, of MTV's Lyricist Lounge. The movie won best short film at the Scion FIlm Festival and the clip below is a great fight scene from the movie.

As for all this stuff you see me involved with..
when you see me in the streets...

Yo- I been doin this for over a decade- I continue to give the world a piece of my mind, a stroke of my art, a voice for the unheard, for all those who never got to rock, never held a mic, never saw their talent come to life, MUCH REPSECT, ALWAYS. Its a hard road to travel, an avalanche to handle, a complicated mess to unravel. An artist's life is not to be envied, but the experiences and fruits of that life tell the tale of how deep their struggle is and- the clear truth- nothing in life is easy. I been signed to a label, released records independently, and of all the people I met- most were only out for themselves. I honor those who put the artist first, and I hope the young artists remember industry rule number 4080, dont forget your lessons. Stay up and keep breathin.
