A little history of the band:
Original band lineup was myself (Richard Wilson) and Richard Norton. We met at a summer camp (Camp Beaumont) on the Isle of Wight in 2001. One of the camp staff lent me a guitar for the week so that my 2 friends Joe and Danny and myself could write songs, play songs, and generally entertain people. It went down a treat with the other people there, even though I'd only been playing the guitar for 4 months and was seemingly the most experienced one of us. We met Rich after a couple of days of entertaining when he realised i was playing Green Day - Good Riddance/Time Of Your Life in the wrong key (as i'd worked it out from memory). He came up to me and offered to show me how it was played, and from that moment we became firm friends.
Rich and I continued to meet up through the year either at his home in Maidstone or at mine just outside London for a few days every couple of months. We always jammed as much as we could when we met up.
The 4 of us returned to the camp the following year, this time ready and prepared, armed with our own guitars, enabling Rich and myself to both play, and Danny backing up my vocals. We played all over the campsite, at the camp fire on a few occasions and playing our own gig at the end of the week Rich was there.
Again Rich and I met up continuously through the next year, often when I visited him to help out his band Broadview as their official roadie whenever I could. Rich played the bass in Broadview for a few years before Mike (lead vocals/guitar) had to leave for university bringing the band to a stop.
Another year passed and this meant another summer at the camp, with much the same playing and writing of songs keeping us (and others) amused for many a day. Unfortunately our ever increasing age meant that this was the last time we could go to the camp, and probably the last chance to see a number of friends we saw there each year.
The following year saw more practicing and the realisation that we should record some of the music. I had been doing a Music Technology A-level course and this gave me the opportunity to do the initial recording of Loving You Enough To Leave, but on my own - playing and recording all 8 tracks myself! the other recording for my coursework was a cover of Jimmy Eat World - My Sundown which, due to copyright reasons, I cannot release to the public, sorry! (it's a shoddy performance anyway!). We recorded our first EP (This Beautiful Misunderstanding) in July 2004 at Bonafide Studios in London, and played some fesivals including the Peace One Day festival in Maidstone at the end of that summer. Unfortunately the end of that summer saw the split of Broadview and Rich's move to lead vocals and guitar in his new band Kicking Chloe. It also saw me move to Sheffield for University where I was determined to keep my music going.
Due to the fact that we've now moved to different areas of the country I'm still continuing as a solo project, continuing to write all the lyrics and music, and looking for a new backing guitarist in Sheffield. Of course Rich and I will most likely do gigs together still whenever we can.
Since then I've mainly been playing open mic nights, predominantly at Open Space on Thursday nights at the University union, as well as at The Nottingham and The Bedroom. Gigs are looking hopeful for the near future, and i'm in the process of finding a new backing guitarist and hopefully backing vocals too.
Rich Norton has since been busy with a music degree at Brighton Istitute of Modern Music (BIMM), found himself in yet another band, Keeping Enemies Close for a while. Now he plays guitar for My Last Mistake along with his girlfriend Lea.
