The Radio Galaxy was formed during the Summer 2004 in the vicinity of West Paterson, New Jersey. The band did some "genre hopping" in its early phases, but has since been forging an alternative rock sound of their own. Lead singer Virginia Kamenitzer says that "if Sarah McLachlan and Ani DiFranco had a 5 ft tall baby, covered her with some serious rocking power and lovingly placed her in a talented, groove-based rock n' roll band, you would have The Radio Galaxy." Luckily, the band exists on its own accord, with Virginia backed by Dave DeRiso (drums), Tim Dempsey (guitar, vocals), Ryan Headley (guitar, mandolin), and Randy Artiglere (bass).
The Radio Galaxy's sophomore effort, "Don't Forget to Listen," was released in June 2007. The recording represents a coming to grips with changes as both a band and as individuals, and shows that they are now comfortable with themselves. Comfort shouldn't be confused with content, however. The band is already beginning pre-production for a third EP that they plan to record in Artiglere's and Headley's lake house on Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey.
In January 2007, the band was voted by readers of The Daily Record as the Best Original Band in Morris County. However, their accomplishments have not been limited to the Garden State. They participated in a battle of the bands sponsored by Q104.3 in 2005. The Radio Galaxy swept the contest, winning a $10,000 recording package to record one song at Tainted Blue Productions (the former Quad Studios Penthouse in Times Square). The Galaxy formed a relationship with producers Patrick Shaw and Andrew Koss at Tainted Blue, going on to perform the first "From the Penthouse" showcase at the studio. In addition, Shaw went above the Galaxy's prize winnings, producing three tracks on "Don't Forget to Listen."
