1. The function of the state, both historically and presently, is to preserve and protect the interests of a narrow economic elite, presently organized in corporate forms. The corporation is an authoritarian, coercive institution which works through the state to extend its domination, increase its wealth, and by its very make-up, is incapable of taking the concerns of actual people into account. The SFV Anarchist Federation commits itself to challenging the state corporate nexus, and works to dismantle any and all illegitimate forms of authority.
2. Anarchism is more of a tendency, a way of viewing the social world and its institutions, than a set of rules or doctrines. Therefore, SFVAF allows for a wide variety of anarchist viewpoints which have historically been in conflict. SFVAF recognizes Anarcho-communists, individualists, syndicalists, ecologists, etc, because we believe that the problems we face as a society are so large, and the danger so immediate, that everyone in the anarchist community has something to contribute.
As anarchists, we do not accept the necessity of a "vanguard party," or a "revolutionary elite" that will authoritatively issue rules and decisions. An anarchist revolution comes from the community itself, with all decisions made by the community.
3. SFVAF commits itself to challenging oppression in all its forms. Racism, sexism, ethnocentrism, and homophobia are not only individual personality faults but rooted in structures and institutions. Wherever oppression shows its face, SFVAF will be there to challenge it, directly.
4. As capitalist economy grows and entrenches itself worldwide, employing force to ensure its domination, SFVAF pledges itself to challenging the authoritarian World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, institutions responsible for stretching the divide between the rich and the poor to the breaking point. "Free Trade" agreements are anything but "free," and are demonstrably not fair.
To confront international institutions requires international opposition, and SFVAF will work with other organizations with similar objectives to bring about an equitable and just globalization.
5. SFVAF wishes to extend democratic control not only to the political sphere, but the economic sphere as well. We advocate and agitate for socializing the tools of production, elimination of top-down managerial decision-making, and return of control to workers, worker councils, and worker federations. Democracy only in the political sphere, not in the economic sphere, is a sham.
6. SFVAF strives to be a model of the society we would like to see created. All decisions are made democratically, all positions of authority are accountable to the collective, and work is apportioned based on willingness to embrace the tasks, and ability.
