Born in the cold of Evanston, Illinois, but raised in the heat of West Palm Beach, Florida. He was the son of Haitian Immigrants who installed in him the belief ‘nothings impossible. The southern lyricist whose musical influence range from Jay-Z to Bob Dylan wasn’t always sure that making music was his destiny. Although a huge fan of Hip-Hop since a child, it wasn’t until 2003 after watching Tupac Resurrection that the dream of being an MC came into fruition. Witnessing the power of words and how it affected many lives, Jason decided to use the skills he had developed over the years in the shadows to make real music. His then girlfriend came up with the rap name JaFleu (pronounced Jay Flow) a breakdown of his full name Jason Fleurant. JaFleu gave his name an acronym to give it more meaning much like one of his favorite rappers Krs-One (Knowledge Rules Supreme Over Nearly Everyone). It now also stood for Justice Always Finds Light EventUally. Later that year inspired by Kanye West’s “College Dropout†debut, JaFleu proceeded to believe his dream could actually come true and made his first mixtape “Hip-Hop 101â€. Later down the line after dealing with some personal conflicts JaFleu changed his name and carry on under a new moniker called JaSun. After recording a couple more street albums in 2008 the decision was made to return to his originally name JaFleu. Now feeling more in tune with the artist/ man he was becoming. After receiving great critical acclaim by peers for his projects (The Incredible Hulk Mixtape/ The 25th Hour/ Market 4 Nigga$/ Confessions Of An MC), JaFleu is now ready to tackle working on his debut album The Prodigal’Sun. Stay tune to see what the Scarface influenced rapper has next up his sleeve. Many feel that The South is just about dancing and goon talk, but this southern emcee aims to display that there is so much more depth to who we as a people are. Not just in The South, but the world all together. To define JaFleu’s style it would of to be considered Hip-Hop Soul. He makes music from his heart, never holding back but put quality above quanity and sales. Envision a Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, Marvin Gaye type sound but with rap and maybe just maybe you can being to grasp the direction of JaFleu.
