About Me

hot_speaker myspace layoutsBorn on December 2, in New York City, Staceye Jaye is no stranger to the stage. She has been singing and dancing since the age of 3. Her acting career began at age 4. And her pageantry career began at the mere age of six months. Neither shyness or stage fright is in her vocabulary. In fact she likes to make eye contact with her audience to pull them into her craft. "Flirtatous" is a word that comes to mind when seeing her perform whether it be singing, dancing or acting. Another word that comes to mind is "Storyteller". She writes her songs based on her personal experiences or those of people close to her. She even writes from the point of view of characters that she plays. She delves deep into the role...and embodies it to make you understand that character. She has done independent films and theater, including musicals. Staceye has many alter egos...a singer...a dancer...an actress... and more... Although she loved ballet and contemporary dance, at age 9 she was introduced to African Dance. Then at 15, she began to study Belly Dance. It instantly became her favorite. She still perfoms as a Belly Dancer today under the stage name of "Sameerah"! Tribal Gothic is her favorite style of Belly Dance. You see it when she sings...she can't help but move to the music as it calls to her. These experiences would come to shape her style of music today. Besides the performing in various talent shows, events and showcases, Staceye also always took the title of Most Talented in every pageant. In one instance she even choreographed the opening dance number and two of her competitors’ dance routines for a pageant, in which she won. She is quoted as saying, “I’m not afraid of a little competition. In fact, I welcome it. It keeps me on my toes and doesn’t let me get comfortable”! As a member of a high school singing- group Deja’Vu, she often struggled with conformity. She is an individualist with her own style of dress and personality that set her apart from the other members. That experience taught her that her destiny as an artist is that of soloist. Staceye has always had a way with words. It started from short stories, to poetry to song lyrics. Not fond of cliché lyrics, she likes to write words that actually make people take notice and identify with. Although before her time, John Lennon is one of her songwriting idols, along with Prince, Babyface and Ne-Yo. As a fan of all styles of music, from R&B to Pop, Rock to Opera, Salsa to Reggae, and so on it shows in her music where her influences derive. Not wanting to be pigeon-holed into one category, fusion is the key! “ A little something for everyone,” is her motto!
