Darklands was formed in 1992 by Ariel Sanga (guitar), Robert Bergius (bass), Jani Erickson (drums) and Erik Barthold (vocals). After a few months the band split up and this could have been the end of the Darklands story. But sometimes there is life after death...
In autumn 1993 the band re-united with a new drummer named MÃ¥rten Magnefors. Two songs were recorded for the compilation cassette "Sundsvall Underground" in April 1994. The very same year the demo tape "Diablerie" was released and it was highly praised in various zines, and of course by all the rockers in the bands hometown. Another demo tape was actually recorded in 1995, but it was never released due to the fact that Darklands got signed to the record company Heathendoom Music.
In the spring of 1996 the debut three-track mini-CD "Chronicles" was released. A session drummer named Paul played on this recording and on the album "Darklands" which was released in 1998. It shows the dark, emotional, gothic rock music of this band. On live appearances a guy called Grim played the drums. After the recording of the album Grim left the band and Jonas Wisén joined in.
Darklands went on their first real swedish tour in February 1999 and a single of the track "A Memory Of You" was released. Shortly after this the Heathendoom Music label unfortunately closed down and Darklands no longer had a record deal. For the next couple of years the members were involved in other bands, but after a while they got together and made a new demo in 2002 and later the five-track CD "Zodiak".
Since then they've been working on new material and recorded a new album which will be released in 2008.
