I usually never read books.
My daughter Kadence is my biggest hero.. she's been through so much!! She survived at 2 pounds 8 1/2 ounces and 14 1/2 inches long. She dropped down to 2 pounds 2 ounces after she was born. I was only pregnant with her for 6 months. When She was born she had to be, I kid you not, wraped up in bubble wrap, put inside a ziplock bag, with a blanket inside the bag around her in order to keep her warm. She spent a month... almost 2 months in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) at OSF, she spent most of her time in an isolette, she had to be on the C-pap for quite a while. She had to be kept under heat lamps with little goggles over her eyes for about 3 days, she had to be in moisture. They had to put a feeding tube down her throat. She couldn't eat for 3 days after she was born, they ran steril water throughout her body instead. When she was able to eat, they started her out at (1) ML. That is just a couple of droppes. She had to have an IV in to keep her hydraded, she couldn't wear clothes until she was 2 weeks old (she was swimming in them even then.) She had to take caffinee to keep her heart beat steady. There would be times... many times when she would have apnea, which is when she would hardly breath at all. She had more bradycardia then apnea though. Bradycardia is having a low heart rate. She was on the C-pap for a week or two weeks, then they switched her to a nasel canula. She had to have a blood transfusion when she was a month old. Rodney and I kept a journal from when she was in the hospital so we have record of what she had to go through. I never would have thought that our baby would have to go through something like this. It was seriously a learning experience. I never really knew what had to be done to babies born prematurally and... now I know!! Most make it through, but some do not. A couple did not make it when we were in the NICU. She was a lucky baby.I could keep going about the first few months of her life, but I gave you some good reasons why Kadence is my hero. She's been through too much. She is doing really good now. She's 5 1/2 months old and weighs in at 10 pounds!!! =)
