From the founding meeting of what would eventually become Students for Social Change, one of the attendants had the following to say:
"History doesn't stand still. The world is constantly changing. I've been studying it, looking for patterns. Every 30 years or so, a mass event and/or popular uprising occurs that changes the conditions of our existence.
Knowing this, the right people at the right time could change everything as we know it. Look at Bismarck and Lenin, Jefferson and Franklin. While these are not parallel examples, the point remains the same which I will repeat for emphasis. The right people at the right time could change the very face of the world.
I propose that this group seeks to become those people."
