There’s only one guarantee the boys in Australian acid blues/soul/rock improvisational institution CHECKERBOARD will give – ‘the best gig in town, tonight!’
Together they traverse a spontaneously inspired universe of sound, from the most solid and soulful rockin' blues and roots-based traditions to dynamic journeys of random collective improvisation…this band is as rare as it is blessed with being perhaps one of the most variable and moment-stealing groups of masterful musicians. The current core line-up is at the peak of their listening relationship and interaction, able to create seamless elements of seemingly rehearsed outcome from nothing.

SHANNON BOURNE – the man with the guitar
Shannon’s playing was once described in the mainstream press as ‘face melting’ – we like to say he’ll melt your soul and set you pants on fire! Acknowledged as one of the very best blues players in the country, Shannon has an intuitive mastery of sound and a deep knowledge and understanding of his (usually vintage) six string timber.
