Sonic Epiphany’s David Hambly describes SE’s music as “formless music for the mind.” It is introspective ambient that pulls the listener into a trance, embracing the void and summoning the power of pure mind, separated from body. Sonic Epiphany’s moniker is the perfect description for an artist whose music uses the aural senses to summon metaphysical wanderings in the outer reaches and the innermost mind. Or, as Hambly puts it: “Textures set a mood, conjuring up images – hypnotic, mesmerizing, transcendent, enchanting, surreal, dreamlike, floating and drifting, soaring and shifting. Interlocking patterns and splintering synthesizers seeping through your headphones into the mind’s eye – a long voyage to the deep realms of outer space or a short excursion to the center of your mind.”
MindWarp
This is it, the ultimate positive mindwarp. However you choose to describe this music, what you must recognize is its absolutely irresistible siren-song ability to compel the listener to keep listening, to release him- or herself into the realm of spirit where all things are possible. “This is music for the new millennium, the reconvergence of science and religion, the union of technology and spirituality – ‘the soul of the machine,’” says Hambly. He points out that these concepts are reflected in the titles of his work – “Spiritual Downloading,” “Attention Deficit Multitasking,” “Strawberries In Between 2 Tigers” and so on.
Positivism
Hambly also points out that Sonic Epiphany’s music is inspired by a positive world outlook. “Positivism … this is music for relaxation, dreaming, sleeping, making love, reading a book and meditating …” He very much strives to inspire positive mindsets, spiritual serenity and mental journeying via his surprising and absorbing and totally unique compositions.
Work
The brilliance of Sonic Epiphany’s work has been recognized over and over by others. He has 18 top ten hits at acidplanet.com and has had tracks featured on such compilations as “The Acid Exchange” from the International Music and Arts Guild (the song “Creshendo Orgasm”) and a Wallcracks Music Competition 2003 release featuring the top ten electronic musicians of Acid Planet (“Gethsemene”). Hambly has a number of songs in the works, including “a minimalist ambient song, a more dynamic electronic/ambient hybrid song” and a “space music collaboration piece with guitarist Wraith479.
