PERFORMING SONGWRITER'S TOP 12 ARTIST
TRP recording artist Tom Glynn is one of Performing Songwriter’s Top 12 Indie Artists. Describing him as a cross between Ben Folds and Elvis Costello, Glynn’s soulful voice, introspective lyrics and uncanny sense of melody and chord structure blur the lines between folk, jazz, and pop into a sound that is truly his own. His passion for the singer-songwriters of his youth, along with his father’s love of the popular songbook of a previous generation, led Glynn to a life of crafting songs that are both fresh and modern-sounding while never forgetting his roots and the music that led him down this path.
A student of piano and guitar since the age of ten, Glynn plays all the instruments on his latest recordings and also produces his own songs. His moving live performances are a blend of intricate guitar finger-picking, powerful piano playing, and evocative story-telling. In his latest attempt to broaden his musical horizons, Glynn now performs with a baritone acoustic guitar in an alternate tuning specifically built for him by renowned luthier David Berkowitz. This rare, beautiful instrument, described as “the cello of guitarsâ€, captures the low end of a bass guitar and the high bell tones of a standard guitar simultaneously. The result is an incredibly full and dramatic sound for a one man show.
Glynn’s first performance at The Living Room in New York was opening for Norah Jones and The Little Willies, and he now performs there regularly and throughout listening rooms on the East Coast, including the new Berklee venue in his hometown of Boston. His music is heard in 350 Caffe Nero coffee shops across Europe. Throughout the years, his songs have been featured on numerous TV shows on ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox. Steve Morse of The Boston Globe calls him “a tunesmith at the top of his game.â€
