I bought "A Taste of Persia" by Najmieh K. Batmanglij, a beautiful little book on Persian cooking. A friend, Dar, suggested Pars Deli. Their French and Bulgarian goat cheeses, purchasable in bulk, are perfect complements to salads, rices, and kebab/kababs. The same can be said for their yogurts, which I now use as a substitute for sour cream. I've tried their powdered sumac on rice and yogurt, and find it renders just the right piquance for those otherwise bland dishes. The tea there is phenomenal, and is complimentary with a meal or while you wait for a take-out. Ask their friendly staff what tea they use (it is Earl Grey with bergamot and a touch of orange water) and where it can be found on the shelf. They'll take time to step from behind the counter and show you...a nice touch in a store crowded with so many delicacies. The best thing of all is the informality and focus on quality in foods. The place is a britannica of herbs, spices, cheeses, and persian meals. You'll not tire of Pars Deli. BTW, this is my first comment on this site, but I thought Pars worthy of the effort.

I love this place. The staff is great. They're always super friendly. I get to go falafels from here all the time. It's quick and cheap. I've been to other places in austin for falafel and its always been over priced and gross. Pars falafels are moist and not burnt like other places I've been. The tables are small but you can always pull them together for a large group. The only thing I don't like...you have to walk through the kitchen to get to the bathroom. It's just a little awkward. BUT I do get to peak at all the food being cooked. I definately recommend the falafel wraps and the lentils and rice :) The iced tea is also great. Like the other guy said they do something extra to it that makes it stand out.
Really good

This is the best and cheapest place I have found yet. Food is great and the service is quick and friendly. Try the veggie wrap; it's the best of everything.
Friendly, tasty, and quick

So I found this deli here on citysearch---I had exactly one hour to get from my office to the nearest Mediterranean restaurant for some falafel and then back. I made it back to work with my to-go falafel wrap, Mediterranean potatoes (and a grape leaf for good measure) in 30 minutes. I choose one of the combos and got a delicious iced tea (I don't know how it is made, but they do a little something extra which maked it delicious!) and in addition to the grape leaf (which I was craving, but which made the meal almost too much to eat) it was under $8. While my meal was prepared, I browsed around the market, and planned what I was going to get next time I go. The man behind the counter was very friendly---told me about the combos, and described some of the options for the sides. Not too busy---equal numbers of people getting to-go and dining in. I will definitely be back---I've been looking for a good Mediterranean spot in the area (which is close to home and close to work). Easy to get too, as well, right off of 183.
BEST!!!!
